THE ACCOUNTANT: This position will be an integral role within the
Accounting team, managing and leading many of the Museums
accounting processes and practices while working in an often
autonomous work setting with limited supervision. The qualified
candidate will possess the ability to drive and foster business
continuity across all departments and cultivate and maintain
effective and professional working relationships with all internal
stakeholders, while also bridging departmental continuity with the
CFO, Controller, and Accounting Clerk and keeping them informed of
all accounting business activities as needed.
JOB SUMMARY: Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial
information and prepare financial reports by compiling information
and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures. Analyze
and interpret financial information. Prepare financial reports for
regulatory agencies and tax authorities. Support mission and vision
of Museum throughout performance of duties.
- Often serve as first point of contact for the Accounting team.
Provide direction to internal stakeholders on accounting policies
- Serve as back-up to Controller and CFO.
- Ensure strong accounting and operational controls to safeguard
museum and operational performance.
- Make recommendations to Controller to streamline accounting
processes. Manage and implement changes.
- Manage daily cash management, including online
- Manage and record journal entries, such as cash receipts,
payroll allocations, loan payments, account adjustments,
- Manage and oversee recording of construction loan
- Manage and administer monthly account reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements.
- In partnership with Controller, CFO, and CEO, administer budget
preparation and analyses.
- Manage monthly sales tax reporting.
- Maintain fixed asset depreciation schedule.
- Prepare and manage work papers for annual audit and tax
- Perform maintenance and administration of accounting
- Act as a backup for A/P. Review of A/P invoices prior to check
- Manage special projects as assigned by Controller.
- Follow policies and procedures to ensure a safe work

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE: Ability to work both in an
autonomous work environment under limited direction and the ability
to work within a departmental team environment and build effective
and proactive work relationships. Strong interpersonal skills with
the ability to cultivate and maintain effective and respectful
working relationships with all stakeholders. Strong oral and
written communication skills. Strong professional judgment and the
ability to demonstrate adaptability to individual needs while not
compromising integrity and financial needs of the organization.
Strong professional demeanor, decorum, and work ethics. Outstanding
organizational skills with an emphasis on accuracy, detail, and
follow-through. Advanced computer skills and proficiency in MS
Office, particularly Excel. Experience in Fundware or Financial
Edge preferred. Experience in non-profit accounting and job-cost
knowledge helpful. Bachelors degree in Accounting and three years
recent solid accounting experience or any equivalent education and
