DescriptionSUMMARY
Provides billing and collections support to ensure services are billed in accordance with applicable regulations and policies and payment is collected within necessary timeframes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and submit clean claims to third party payers either electronically or by paper.
  • Maintain relationship with clearinghouse, including appropriate follow-up with support issues.
  • Coordinate the process of patient eligibility through various third-party sources.
  • Coordinate collection process, to include tracking current collections.
  • Work with program staff, ensure appropriate collection of co-pays, self-pay fees, etc.
  • Handle patient inquiries and answer questions from staff and insurance companies.
  • Work directly with families to set up payment plans as needed.
  • Identify and help resolve billing issues.
  • Resolve denials of payment or assist in this process as needed.
  • Post adjustments, transfer of responsibility and refunds, as necessary.
  • Report on applicable billing activities.
  • Assist and/or conduct billing audits as needed.
  • Assist program/organization in achieving maximum reimbursement for provided services.
  • Assist office management and clinical staff in correcting medical record data entry/billing errors as needed.
  • Assist with implementation and monitoring of corrective actions in response to billing issues.
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure confidentiality of client information and records.
  • Immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions, areas of risk, or accidents in their department and or organization to immediate supervisor.
  • Fulfill all contractual and organizational training requirements (e.g., cultural competency, Privacy/Security, False Claims Act, etc.).
  • Perform special projects, assignments and other related duties as required or assigned.

    Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical records and reports; the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; and the ability to effectively present information to groups.

        QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
        --- At least one year of experience in medical (private insurance) billing and collections
        --- Associate Degree or related certification (e.g., medical billing/coding) - Bachelor's Degree highly preferred
        --- Experience working with an electronic health record system
        --- Must be 21 years of age or older
        --- Valid California Driver's License
        PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
        --- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
        --- Experience in Medi-Cal billing - highly preferred
        --- Certification in Medical Billing/Coding
        --- Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university
