Currently, 78% are students of color, 69% are women, and many are the first in their families to pursue higher education. In addition, global education plays a central role in the program. Each cohort includes members residing outside of the United States, and all students take a seminar on globalization and participate in at least one global education experience before graduation. Detailed Description: The Department of Learning and Teaching at the University of San Diego seeks qualified applicants for a -9-month, full-time, tenure track faculty position at the rank of associate or full professor in our Ph.D. in Education for Social Justice program to provide strategic and innovative visioning and programmatic leadership to serve our very diverse student population. If desired, grant opportunities, teaching, or stipends can support work in the summer months. We seek a dynamic and engaged scholar with a demonstrated commitment to high-quality student-centered pedagogy and critical scholarship. The candidate will collaborate with the Director of Online Programs and faculty to support the emerging needs and trends of the Ph.D. in Education for Social Justice program.Responsibilities: -
    • This position will involve teaching and advising responsibilities at the doctoral level in the online Ph.D. program. Preference will be given to candidates who can effectively design and teach high-quality online courses, advise candidates on their dissertation research, and collaborate with the director of online programs and faculty around program design, implementation, and evaluation. Oversight of the administration of the qualifying exams, candidacy colloquia, and dissertation defenses is expected.
    • Active engagement in collaborative processes to improve the student experience, such as skills in fostering student community and promoting positive and healthy group dynamics within the complex situated contexts of race and social justice. -
    • The faculty member will support our Holmes scholars in our new Holmes Scholar Program. The Holmes Program provides mentorship, peer support, and professional development opportunities for doctoral students who self-identify as racially and ethnically diverse and are pursuing graduate degrees in education at American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) member institutions.
    • Faculty members must have an active research agenda to create research opportunities through grants to support students' research and be willing to collaborate across disciplines within the School and University.
    • Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to liaising with doctoral programs in other universities, maintaining a profile in research-affiliated local, national, and international organizations, and supporting the Director of the Ph.D. program, student admissions, and general departmental and university service, including department and school-wide meetings; service on department, school, and university-wide committees.Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. - Job Requirements: Qualifications: An ideal candidate for this position will meet the following criteria:
      • Earned doctorate in education or a related field.
      • Demonstrated teaching excellence in a doctoral program. -
      • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
      • Demonstrated and active evidence of research and scholarship in academic venues, as reflected in research grants, publications, and professional presentations.
      • Demonstrated experience teaching in doctoral programs and advising doctoral students on their dissertations
      • Demonstrated expertise in technology or have experience with teaching in online programs
      • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: critical quantitative methods, school reform, higher education, adult learning, and professional development, and technology. Ideal candidates have a strong grounding in one or more disciplinary traditions, including the history of education, philosophy of education, sociology of education, and economics of education.
      • Experience with online and asynchronous instruction preferred.
