Position description
The University of California, Riverside, Department of Economics
invites applications for three (3) open rank (Assistant, Associate
or Full) Professors of Teaching beginning July 1, 2025. Professor
of Teaching positions are equivalent in level to other ranked
faculty positions, but with emphasis placed on excellence in
teaching and instruction-related activities. The appointed
candidate will have teaching responsibilities for undergraduate
introductory and advanced courses, and may be asked to teach in the
department's future master's program in Economics.
Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Teaching
Candidates for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant
Professor of Teaching level must show (1) strong potential for
excellence in undergraduate teaching, (2) strong potential for
contributions to research in economics or education, and/or
pedagogical contributions, and (3) an ability and eagerness to
engage in university and public service. Applicants are expected to
have demonstrated commitment to high-quality and innovative
teaching. Applicants must be ABD at the time of application and
should have a PhD. by the time of appointment ; July 1, 2025. We
are particularly interested in candidates with a proven record of
teaching excellence beyond any experience they may have as teaching
assistants. Applications from advanced Assistant Professors of
Teaching are strongly encouraged.

Tenured Associate or Full Professor of Teaching
Candidates for tenured appointments at the Associate or Full
Professor of Teaching level must demonstrate (1) a proven track
record of maintained excellence in teaching, (2) Professional,
pedagogical and/or scholarly achievement commensurate with rank,
and (3) a strong record of university and/or public service with
particular emphasis on service related to teaching, undergraduate
mentoring and/or pedagogy. Candidates for tenured appointments must
have a Ph.D. in Economics or closely related field at the time of
application. We are particularly interested in candidates with a
proven record of innovative and engaging teaching and demonstrated
commitment to undergraduate education.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of
California is through a series of structured, merit- based
evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes
substantial peer input. Assistant Professors of Teaching are
required to undergo a mandatory 7th-year review for promotion to
Associate Professor of Teaching, although this can occur earlier.
The review process focuses on teaching excellence, professional
and/or scholarly activities, and service. Associate and Full
Professors of Teaching advance through similar regular, structured
and merit-based evaluations.
The University of California values salary transparency and reports
salaries annually in the UC Annual Wage Database. The posted UC
salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at

. Salary ranges for this position are $103,700 -$224,900.
"Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary
that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the
designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet
competitive condition.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
For Assistant Professor of Teaching: Applicants must be ABD at the

Ph.D. in Economics (or closely related field) at the time of
application.
Preferred qualifications
The successful candidate will employ state-of-the-art teaching and
pedagogical practices in their own classrooms and provide mentoring
to undergraduate students of diverse abilities and backgrounds. We
are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the
overall teaching effectiveness of the department, college and/or
university more broadly.
For Assistant Professor of Teaching: A proven record of teaching
excellence beyond serving as a teaching assistant, and potential
for strong contributions to research and/or pedagogy in the
future.
For Associate Professor of Teaching or Full Professor of Teaching:
A proven record of teaching excellence and strong University
service, and contributions to research and/or pedagogy commensurate
with rank.
