Job Description:

DescriptionCollaborates with administrators, teachers, central office personnel, parents, students and the public to provide support and leadership in TK-12 Science for grades TK-12, as well as assigned district-wide instructional programs, special projects or curriculum components (including professional development/on-site coaching/curriculum writing/support and technical assistance to secondary level teachers to expand their understanding and capacity to deliver quality instruction and improve student learning).Examples of Duties* Support the district's goals and objectives by assisting site administrators and teachers to address the needs of students in an assigned instructional program, special project or curriculum component.* Assist in the design, delivery, and evaluation of professional learning and site training activities for administrators, teachers (new and experienced), central office staff, and parents related to the teaching and learning of science.* Serve as the main point of contact for teachers and administrators regarding science TK-12, including maintenance of the district science resource site and RELY modules.* Establish effective and ongoing communications with district administrators, other departments, and district partners regarding curriculum content, classroom materials, and other tools used to deliver quality instruction for a diverse student body and a wide variety of programs and services.* Supports curriculum design process for science curriculum TK-12.* Prepare, implement, and evaluate prevention, intervention and retention strategies, special projects or curriculum design in cooperation with site administrators, teachers, central office staff, students, parents, and others.* Collaborates with other district departments to facilitate effective instructional strategies and approaches for all students and promote cohesive and articulated programs and support.* Visit classrooms and engage teachers in conversations about effective teaching techniques, materials, and best practices (to include classroom demonstration lessons and site-based coaching upon request); however, does not participate as an evaluator in the teacher evaluation process.* Provide leadership for sites in analyzing, communicating and determining "next steps" based on student assessment data.* Support the development and methods by which student performance is evaluated, to conform to district and state guidelines, standards, and frameworks.* Facilitate and/or participate in meetings, workshops, professional development, conferences, instruction and curriculum training, and other related activities.* Continually seek and identify current research and effective practice to inform district programs and supports for the teaching and learning in secondary classrooms.* Manage any responsibilities associated with grants related to science TK-12.* Perform other duties reasonably related to this job class.The ideal candidate would demonstrate the following qualities:* Curriculum design and implementation.* NGSS Standards.* Effective science instructional strategies.* Presentation, communication and public speaking techniques.* Correct English grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary and linguistic conventions.* Reading and writing English communication skills.* Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.* Computer software and online learning tools and office/AV equipment.* How to conduct effective professional development.* California Education Codes and district directives and policies.* Current research related to science education.* Common core standards/expectations in literacy and numeracy.* Programs and reports available within PowerSchool, Illuminate and other district data platforms.* Meet schedules and timelines; be timely and organized.* Work well as part of a team.* Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and problem solving skills.* Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.* Attend occasional evening and weekend meetings or events.* Understand and follow oral and written directions.* Learn procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties.* Communicate effectively and maintain collaborative relationships.* Operate computers and related office equipment.* Prepare presentations and provide training to district personnel.* Maintain records and prepare reports.* Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.* Work independently with little direction; be a self-starter.* Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures .Typical QualificationsQualified applicants must have: (1) a valid California Single-Subject Credential, CLAD certificate preferred AND (2) a minimum of four years or more successful Science classroom teaching experience. Credentials must be registered with the Human Resource Services Division by the closing date. Applicants must have a valid California driver's license and be willing to participate in, and travel to, professional development sessions, workshops, and meetings. (3) Team leader experience preferred.
