This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector and may
reside in San Diego, CA or Magna, UT. The qualified candidate will
become part of Northrop Grumman's Payload and Ground Systems Team.
Job Summary: Northrop Grumman Space Components Business Unit is
seeking a highly motivated Structural Analysis Engineer for
composite structures and assemblies to join the Northrop Grumman
Space Systems Structures team with the following
responsibilities:Assess structural integrity of metallic and
composite structures using traditional closed form solutions, as
well as finite element analysis (FEA)Interact with design and
development teams (teams include specialists in Design, Quality,
Materials, Manufacturing, and Test) to create and verify creative
design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost,
schedule)Generate Finite Element Models and perform FEA for normal
modes, linear static stress, dynamic response/stress,
thermo-elastic distortion, and hygroscopic distortionSupport
development of flight hardware from preliminary through detailed
design, drawing release, manufacturing, integration, verification
testing, and transportationPlan and oversee material
characterization tests of various materials used in the design of
composite structuresReduce material characterization test data into
analysis input properties and material capability propertiesPrepare
and make presentations summarizing structural assessment results
for internal review boards and external customer design
reviewsAssist in assessment and disposition of discrepant hardware
and hardware anomaliesBasic Qualifications:Be completing or has
completed their Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.Be
majoring in or having majored in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, or related STEM majors.Have an overall cumulative GPA
of 3.0 out of 4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must
be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to
your application or profile)Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S.
Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a
pre-requisite)Proficiency in finite element analysis, composite
laminate theory, and dynamicsKnowledge of composite materials
manufacturing processesKnowledge of composite materials application
for extreme environmentsExceptional oral and written communication
skills (computer, documentation, presentations)Ability to work in a
fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline
teamAbility to obtain a security clearancePreferred
Qualifications:MS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace
EngineeringProficiency in FEMAP and NX NastranProficiency in ESI VA
One, Altair Hyperworks, NX, Matlab, Python, and Visual
BasicExperience with aerospace structural construction using
metals, sandwich panels, composite materials, plastics and bonded
jointsResearch/coursework in finite element theory, composite
laminate theory, and dynamicsPrevious experience at an aerospace
company or manufacturing facility Preferred Skills:Be a
self-starter and possess strong interpersonal, and leadership,
skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a
teamAbility to make sound decisionsBe detail oriented but able to
understand the big pictureAbility to multi-taskAbility to
