Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.Our San Diego location is in search of a Chief Engineer NDI on our 1st shift.Roles and Responsibilities:Act as NDI Subject Matter ExpertEstablish formal NDT program covering inspection methods, developing all documents including program plan, written practice, specifications to meet SNT-TC-1A, NAS 410, AWS, ASTM and customer requirements.Qualify and certify NDI inspectors and engineers within the business unit.Responsible for NDI operations including training, development, and inspection processes covering multiple shifts and locations.Ensure all business unit NDI documents meet customer requirements and industry standards.Present NDI program status update and key metrics to senior management to proactively manage the NDI organization.Act as a liaison with manufacturing, engineering, customers, suppliers, and management to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of NDI requirements.Act as a technical focal point for the customer and beyond ensuring customer satisfaction with all technical efforts including customer meetings and design reviewsSupport program setup and initial start (SRR, architecture review, program requirements review, compliance matrix)Monitor team execution to ensure technical requirements are achieved within cost and schedule constraintsInterface with Engineering Product Value Stream Leaders and Functional Management to ensure proper technical supportMonitor design evolution and continually evaluate technical, cost, and schedule. Implement mitigation planning as neededProvide judgement/direction on the technical adequacy of design, analysis, and testing activitiesEnsure product design fits manufacturability & cost parameters and DFMBrief internal and external customer leadership on progress of program and work assignedSupport development of IRAD plans to support current and long term needsNew Business Development: Support proposal development and new program acquisition efforts. Engage customers and guide technical spec and requirements evolution to better position business for technical successCapture and archive lessons learned within the value streamMentor junior engineersThe selected candidate will perform in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings. The ideal candidate is expected to be self-motivated, highly organized, detail oriented, and possess effective verbal and written communication skillsBasic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or STEM-related discipline with 14 years of experience, or 12 years with a Master's Degree and 9 years of experience with a PhD.Candidate must have good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and good oral and written presentation skillsLeadership experience should include at least five of the following: project planning, cost and schedule management and tracking, technology management, risk management, performance reporting, proposals, manufacturing support, vendor selection and management, hardware specification, and program staffingProficiency in space and aerospace structural design of composites structures, including bonded joints, sandwich panels and metalsAerospace experience with product definition (specifications, SOW's, drawings) and design and verification processesDemonstrated experience with composite materials manufacturing processes and applications for extreme environmentsDemonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirementsBroad understanding of engineering, manufacturing, cost and schedule execution, scope management, and risk managementUS citizenship and ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance.Preferred Qualifications:Experience as Technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, or other leadership role in a program office or business function with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skillsSalary Range: 125500 - 233400Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
