Working closely with our manufacturing partners in the Life Science Solutions Group (Biosciences Division) and third-party automation firms, the Automation Project Management role is responsible for the project management and delivery of technical scope associated with design, build, installation, validation, and start-up of medium to large sized industrial automation systems for our manufacturing sites. The Automation Project Manager will either work autonomously with third-party automation firms or coordinate with cross-functional internal teams throughout the entire project lifecycle to deliver world-class automation solutions. What will you do? * Ensure that all projects are delivered within defined scope, budget, schedule, and safety targets. * Coordinate internal resources and manage third-party automation vendors to ensure successful execution of projects. * Develop detail project plans that will establish project objectives, costs, schedule, resource requirements, integration of technical scope, and methods to measure progress. * Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate change management processes. * Measure project performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques; provide regular status reports to project team and key stakeholders. * Identifying and mitigating potential project issues and risks. * Managing the relationship and communication with the client and all stakeholders, ensuring the project is delivered to their satisfaction. * Ensure the accuracy of vendor invoices and vendor progress billings. Work with payable and receivable as necessary. * Conduct internal post-project lessons learned meetings. How will you get here? Education: * Minimum Education Required: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronic / Automation Engineering. Experience: * Minimum 10 years of experience as a project manager for complex automation projects in a manufacturing environment. * GMP experience and understanding of life science / bioscience manufacturing processes (preferred by not required). Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: * Demonstrable successful experience defining, outlining, and managing the scope, resources, and budget implementing factory / laboratory automation in manufacturing facilities * Expert knowledge of the design, installation, validation, and commissioning, of automation systems utilized for life sciences manufacturing operations. * Well-rounded technical experience and / or in-depth knowledge surrounding custom manufacturing automation (ability to develop custom automation user requirement specifications and review third-party automation vendor deliverables associated with robotics, machine vision, conveyance, PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and other industrial automation technologies). * Knowledgeable of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) risk analysis techniques * Understanding of ISO cleanroom standards and requirements. * Knowledge of lean manufacturing and OSHA ergonomic principles. * Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision; initiative to identify and utilize available internal and external resources. * Demonstrated history of customer satisfaction, budget control, and schedule control. * Capable of conducting third-party vendor bid evaluations. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. * High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks. * Ability to collect qualitative and quantitative data and information; analyze and solve problems. * Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary groups and teams. * Proven time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure; strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and tasks. * Project Management Professional Certification (strongly preferred but not required). * Ability to travel as needed (Travel: 0% - 25% Domestic Travel) At Thermo Fisher Scientific, each one of our 80,000 extraordinary minds has a unique story to tell.
