Job Description
The Principal Linux Cloud Engineer is responsible for providing
expert-level administration and support of Linux systems hosted on
AWS cloud, VMWare, and bare metal. This position interfaces with
many cross-functional groups and levels within the organization.
Key roles and responsibilities include architecting solutions for
enterprise-level applications, and mentoring members of the Linux
team.
Responsibilities:
* Support Linux and middleware infrastructure in the AWS cloud and
on-premises datacenters
* Team subject matter expert for all cloud-related projects and
tasks
* Play a key role in the migration of applications to the AWS
cloud
* Automate system-level administration tasks using Bash, Ansible,
and Python
* Develop and maintain cloud provisioning pipelines using Ansible,
Terraform, Jenkins, and Git
* Track and manage vendor support tickets, and work with respective
teams to resolve urgent system issues
* Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and in system failover
testing
* Provide technical support to include proactive and reactive
incident resolution
* Perform proactive review of systems performance metrics and
alerts to ensure event correlation and trend analysis are performed
on a regular basis.
* Work closely with Incident Manager to understand recurring
incidents impacting user population, help identify root cause, and
resolve problems
* Configure, deploy, tune, patch and troubleshoot Red Hat Linux and
Amazon Linux 2
* Actively monitor, respond to, and resolve system alerts generated
by system management tools; Coordinate system tuning to improve
operational capabilities
* Create/Ensure knowledge database is populated with resolutions,
workarounds, known issues
* Responsible for documenting the systems infrastructure,
procedures and maintaining an accurate hardware and software
inventory
* Assist with Capacity Planning to ensure appropriate storage
and/or processing capability of the technical infrastructure to
support present and future initiatives
* Participate in on-call rotation
Qualifications
Required:
* Minimum 8 years of experience with Linux administration with
emphasis on Redhat and Amazon Linux 2
* Experience in supporting production-level environments
* Extensive experience supporting AWS and hybrid cloud
environments
* Working knowledge of AWS administration, cloud migration, and
Terraform framework using best practices
* Experience with AWS CloudTrail, CloudWatch, EC2, Lambda, Route53,
Load Balancing, and Auto Scaling
* Experience managing AWS EBS Snapshots, S3, EFS/FSx, and EKS
* Strong working knowledge in scripting ksh, bash, Perl, Python,
and Ansible
Preferred:
* Experience configuring and supporting Docker, Apache, FTP, DNS,
WebSphere MQ, JBoss JEE, WebLogic, and Oracle Forms
* Working knowledge of network concepts and packet capture
analysis
* Certified AWS SysOps Administrator or AWS Professional
certification
