Job Description
D&K Engineering in Rancho Bernardo is looking to add a Procurement Engineer to their Supply Chain team. This position is responsible for overseeing Supply Chain commodity management activities and deliverables. This position will be the main point of contact with suppliers to assure quality, price and assurance of supply objectives are achieved. This role manages the supplier selection, part costing, part qualification, cost design and manufacturability, and supplier readiness to ensure a smooth ramp to production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop supplier base by actively sourcing, identifying and evaluating new supplier sources and conduct negotiation process in assigned commodity to obtain the maximum benefit for the company
  • Source, select and negotiate for the best purchase package. Perform cost scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Support R&D new product design by identifying and purchasing components and parts for initial prototype build.
  • Work with existing and new vendors to lower materials cost through value engineering, reverse engineering, new design, alternative substitution, or relaxing of tolerance or standardizing of materials.
  • Manage Supplier Manufacturing Service Agreements and Supplier Quality Management to continuously improve quality standards.
  • Manage part qualifications within their commodities to ensure conforming parts and process margin prior to production.
  • Develop systems and procedures for
  • selecting and monitoring vendors and suppliers and ensuring their ability to meet engineering and quality standards;
  • verifying parts and materials received meet requirements in a cost-effective manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Experience and Skills
    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    Education & Experience:

    A four year degree in Engineering.

    0-2 years' experience in a procurement engineering (or similar) role, commodity management, or similar role(s) in a fast paced manufacturing environment with a wide range of experience across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and New Product Introduction.

    Experience designing, sourcing, negotiating, and buying PCBA's, cables, harnesses, and other components needed for complex electromechanical assemblies. Experience with machined & sheet metal fabrication, plastic molding, and other commodities a plus.

    APICS CPIM Certification and experience with lean manufacturing is helpful

    Job Complexity:

    Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise. Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment; executing at both a strategic and detailed execution level.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent knowledge of product development life cycle and ability to program manage supply chain deliverables from sourcing, costing, and qualifying BOMs to ensure production readiness.
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of the concepts of inventory flow throughout the supply chain.
  • Program management skills include ability to:Strong understanding of supply chain methodologies for managing Cost, Quality and Delivery objectives - including possessing the ability to source, qualify, assess, and audit potential suppliers
    • effectively communicate/publish program statuses
    • work cross functionally at the program level
    • effectively apply issue resolution skills
    • manage supply chain resources supporting programs.
    • Demonstrated negotiation skills with all levels of suppliers and internal customers.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to motivate and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, colleagues and clients.
    • Ability to successfully contribute and attain company goals in a fast?paced contract manufacturing environment.
    • Broad commodity knowledge of electronics including PCBAs, components, electro?mechanical assemblies and cables/harnesses. Background in sheet metal fabrication, plastic molding, CNC, extrusions and castings a plus.
    • Proficient in specifications, tolerance requirements and process capacities for fabricated parts and assemblies.
    • Ability to work with the design team and suppliers on DFM/DFC/DFQ to ensure healthy design margins at lowest cost are achieved across all fabricated part commodities.
    • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to analyze and summarize complex data such as bills of material, inspection data, etc.
    • Requires strong process and design margin capabilities related to part designs and tolerancing.
    • Detail oriented with strong follow through capabilities.

      SUPERVISION: Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

      TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:

      Equipment: PC, scanners, facsimile machine, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines or ability to be trained.

      Software Knowledge: Advanced skills in using Microsoft software applications Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Comprehensive MRP knowledge; prior experience with IFS is a plus.

      EFFORT REQUIRED:

      Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Intermittently answer telephone. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.       This position may require limited travel - 15%
