Job Description:
Natilus is seeking a Flight Controls Engineer to lead our
Autopilot team. The group will design, analyze and implement
control algorithms for unconventional manned and unmanned air
vehicles. The team is involved in physical modeling, controls and
estimation, control law development with test pilots in simulated
environments, software development, flight testing of small scale
unmanned airplanes, supporting manned flight testing and whatever
else is needed to make things fly. Natilus is designing and
building a large 19,000lb Blended Wing Body (BWB) unmanned aerial
vehicle to reduce the cost of air freight by 50%. It will be one of
the largest UAVs in the world and the first full scale BWB design
to fly. This position is based out of San Diego, CA and will
require 25% travel. US Citzens or Permanent Residents may apply.
Requirements Lead a team of peers to establish requirements for
flight control system Source, select and analyze flight sensors
Design and implement flight control algorithms Develop flight
simulation programs Test control algorithms in simulation,
hardware-in-loop and flight Minimum Requirements 4-year college
degree in aerospace engineering, robotics or equivalent field 4+
years previous experience developing flight dynamics simulators,
navigation algorithms and/or flight control algorithms 4 or more
years professional experience with C++/Matlab/Simulink Excellent
written and verbal communication skills Preferred Skills and
Experience MS or PhD in aerospace engineering, robotics or
equivalent field Good grasp of aerodynamics and flight dynamics
Experience with manned aircraft Previous experience shipping a
product Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner in a
