Role Overview The Smart Factory Engineer provides expertise to improve information flow within an aerospace manufacturing environment to drive labor and equipment productivity and process capability. This includes designing, planning, and implementing software and reporting systems to facilitate the distribution of information from central systems, e.g. SAP ERP and MES, to the shop floor and the collection, distribution and analysis of production and quality information from the factory. The Smart Factory Engineer will have a leading role in in the development and implementation of new systems, enhancement to existing ones and will transform business data into actionable business intelligence. The Smart Factory Engineer will also have product management responsibility for one or multiple smart factory systems. Primary Responsibilities: Manage multi-site projects to deploy and support a Machine Data Collection and DNC System Support Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Implementation Project Analyze business intelligence information requirements Ensure that business data needs are being addressed in the non-recurring project development, testing and go-live phases of the Implementation project Be the subject matter expert on the MES dataset by understanding the system data model and interconnections of the data to ERP, PLM, Kepware, Thingworx, and other factory systems Work with the data science and analytics team to operationalize the data with analytics, dashboards and reports Support Smart Factory Kepware and Thingworx Project Develop use cases to provide operational benefits in a connected factory Design and implement connected factory projects from conception through transfer to production Build Thingworx applications to track and report on key machinery metrics Interpret business needs for Lean Factory Information Flow and translate needs into application and operational requirements Analyze business process used to manage Shop Life of perishable materials, including nesting, kitting and out time tracking Develop system requirements, select and implement a solution to manage perishable materials from receipt to cure that minimizes waste in the form of scrap, nesting efficiency, sequencing and wait time Analyze business requirements for machinery asset management Lead project to select and implement a solution for machine asset management Conduct technical business analysis to identify smart factory initiatives and use cases that allow the business to meet its objectives Understand existing and potential data sources and develop data collection and reporting tools to share data with stakeholders, and to compile business data into actionable reports and dashboards Create and improve machine reporting dashboard, and alert system using Tableau, PowerBI, Teradata, Alteryx, SAS or other business intelligence systems as needed Plans, promotes and organizes internal training activities related to new systems, modifications and enhancements Proactively communicates and collaborates to analyze information needs and functional requirements Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Candidates for this role should possess a bachelor's degree and 7 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience Advanced analytical skills and strong mathematical aptitude to proactively identify and solve problems Ability to apply creative thinking in the use of management systems and development of business processes Demonstrated project management and leadership skills, including the ability to gather clear business requirements High level of interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and Knowledge of MS Project Preferred Qualifications: Technical experience within an aerospace or related manufacturing industry Experience implementing and supporting software systems in the manufacturing environment Experience in developing and maintaining various analysis, reporting and business intelligence tools.
