Job Description:

Reporting to the VP, Finance & Treasurer, this position will develop, recommend, and administer various risk management programs, manage Illumina's global insurance programs, and provide research and analytical support to optimize protection of Illumina's balance sheet. This role will coordinate and oversee investigation and reporting of accidents/claims under each insurance program, take responsibility for the overall insurance budget, and manage the renewal of the company's global insurance coverage portfolio. The position will interact with leaders across the company, including from Employee Health & Safety, Facilities, HR, Business Continuity Planning, Clinical, Legal, Manufacturing, and Finance.Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for various risk management programs, including ongoing analysis of current and potential future risks
  • Integrate the insurance program with the company's Enterprise Risk Management program and establish a risk management framework that can be used in various decision-making processes throughout the company and includes a methodology to assess the impact of risk (and the transfer of risk) on the company's bottom line
  • Lead the design, procurement, and administration of global insurance programs for Illumina
  • Responsible for insurance policy renewals, including renewal strategy, marketing, data request compilation, and negotiations
  • Oversee and collaborate with various teams across Illumina on all aspects of the global risk management budget
  • Manage insurance claims and maintain loss statistics
  • Collaborate with HR and EHS to manage the workers' compensation insurance program
  • Work with business partners in the review of insurance terms in contracts as requested, and support legal on any litigated claims
  • Main relationship contact for insurance carriers and brokersListed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.Requirements (Qualifications and Attributes):
    • 12+ years of risk management or insurance experience and 3-6 years of management experience
    • Knowledge of risk management and insurance coverage terms and issues
    • Expertise in a variety of insurance policies, including D&O, property and business interruption, product liability, workers' compensation, professional liability, fiduciary liability, cargo, and cyber
    • Strong project management skills
    • Exceptional analytical skills
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Extraordinary focus on details, accuracy, and quality
    • Adaptable, flexible, and able to balance multiple projects / priorities
    • Integrity, reliability, initiative, and the ability to meet tight deadlines

      • Requires Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, or related field, or equivalent
      • MBA preferred
