Develops financial and operational objectives and applies expertise to achieve those objectives. Ensures operational plans are aligned with business objectives. Contributes to functional strategy development. Responsible for the scale up, validation, quality and production support of products. Works on complex technical and project problems where analysis of situations or available data requires a thorough evaluation of various factors and ability to determine the best course of action that will achieve the optimal solution. Lead teams to improve efficiency and quality of BDB products. Job Title: Senior Manager Beads Manufacturing Org/Dept: Reagent Operations Location: San Diego San Diego Reports To: Director of Operations San Diego JOB SUMMARY Identify, hire and manage the activities of professional staff and/or supervisors whose responsibilities will be the transfer and establishment of a new manufacturing operation within the BDB San Diego business. Once established, this role will have ongoing responsibilities to sustain and manage the new manufacturing operation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES For new manufacturing start-up activities the supervisor will support: Establishment of production laboratory (layout, benches, work-flow, equipment purchase and placement, materials and supply management). Establishment of all production and relevant quality process and procedures. Equipment qualification and process validation. SAP plant start-up activities as assigned. Manage multiple projects and functional departmental groups to analyze and solve complex and challenging problems in reagent operations. Develops and implements business strategies to achieve objectives. Assist and mentor associates to develop skills and techniques Provide guidance to experimental strategy, problem characterization, data acquisition and analysis. Ensure products meet quality and regulatory standards Lead and work with multi-functional teams to identify, evaluate and implement improvements and new technologies that will boost product quality, yields and reduce production costs. Apply lean and six sigma practices into the development, scale up and setup of the manufacturing processes. Review development activities, validation protocols and reports for manufacturing equipment and processes. Ensures validation of equipment and processes. Keeps abreast of the requirements for regulatory compliance and ensure department complies with those requirements: Participates in regulatory audits and submissions. Manage department resources and expenditure to meet budgetary targets. Promotes a safe work environment. Implement efforts to maintain a safe work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Education and Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing a multi-functional group in production, process development or product transfer group. A minimum of 8 year experience in a FDA or ISO regulated production environment is preferred Requires a minimum of a Bachelor degree. 15 years of experience in biological sciences or related field or an advanced degree and 10 years of experience in biological sciences is preferred 50%-75% Travel to San Jose for the 1st year Assets: Attention to detail and willingness to be "hands on" to achieve project objectives Project management experience Effective in collaborating and managing within a matrix managed organization Effective interpersonal and leadership skills Experience with organic chemistry Knowledge of methods for protein purification, conjugation to fluorochrome and haptens, flow cytometry, immunochemical and immunoassay techniques highly desirable Knowledge of general laboratory safety, GMP's and associated regulatory requirements 6 Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification is preferred Knowledge of statistics and its application in product and process optimization Experience in writing protocols & reports with justification for design and acceptance criteria for regulated products.
