Job Description:
SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Flight Instruction is
responsible to provide safe, effective and efficient FAA Part 141
flight instruction operations for the University that is in
accordance all local, state, and federal guidelines. The Assistant
Director Flight Instruction must also uphold the philosophy and
mission of the University while instilling positive and progressive
attitudes in all students. JOB REQUIREMENTS include but are not
limited to the following: COMPLIANCE:Responsible for compliance
with all local, state, accreditation and federal regulations.Ensure
that all employees and students are held accountable to the
company's policies and procedures and applicable laws.Ensure
completeness, accuracy, and security of campus files, documents and
reports.Review all necessary policies and procedures to ensure a
culture of compliance.Supervise all aircraft operations for
safety;Intervene when safety of flight is in doubt and provide
corrective measures;Monitors and insures CAU standardization of
CFIs;Provides both classroom and flight instruction as
needed;Develops and implements training courseware
revisions;SUPERVISION:Oversee all duties of the Human Resources
Department.Manage 10-20 direct reports.Conduct interviews, hires,
trainings and terminations.Manage the CFI'S performance
standards.Ensure through proper monitoring and communication that
all Flight department employees adhere to the company's policies
and procedures.Ensure that all the loan resources employees'
performance reviews and disciplinary actions are completed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Serves as Chief Flight Instructor in the absence
of the Director of Flight Instruction;Directs daily operations to
ensure compliance with federal air regulations;Supervises flight
scheduling;Makes hiring recommendations, trains staff, and
evaluates performance;Develops training manuals and procedures for
pilots and CFIs;Monitors pilot proficiency and currency;Ensures
Instructor records are accurate and up to date;Audits flight
training records regularly;Serves as Flight Training Operations
representative as necessary;Attends community outreach programs and
engages in professional development activities; ESSENTIAL
INSTRUCTOR DUTIES:Follow objectives of course syllabus as provided
by CAU.Prepare and implement day-by-day course outline.Prepare
lesson plans and required materials for each day's
instruction.Record daily attendance and communicate potential
concerns.Promote a positive learning environment in the
classroom.Motivate and encourage students to attend class regularly
and apply themselves to their course of study.Maintain clear and
consistent communication using a variety of teaching
methods.Maintain record book on each student to include grading and
attendance.Ensure that all students are held accountable to CAU
rules and regulations.Recommend improvements in course design,
materials, equipment, and facilities that may enhance student's
learning experiences and preparation for employment.Develop and
implement an annual professional development plan to enhance career
growth.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:To
perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: To be eligible for designation as an
assistant chief instructor for a course of training, a person must
meet the following requirements: Hold a commercial pilot or an
airline transport pilot certificate and, except for the assistant
chief instructor for a course of training solely for a
lighter-than-air rating, a current flight instructor certificate.
The certificates must contain the appropriate aircraft category,
class, and instrument ratings if an instrument rating is required
by the course of training for the category and class of aircraft
used in the course; Meet the pilot-in-command recent flight
experience requirements of --61.57 of this chapter; Pass a
knowledge test on- Teaching methods; Applicable provisions of the
"Aeronautical Information Manual"; Applicable provisions of parts
61, 91, and 141 of this chapter; and The objectives and approved
course completion standards of the course for which the person
seeks to obtain designation. Pass a proficiency test on the flight
procedures and maneuvers appropriate to that course; and Meet the
applicable requirements in paragraphs (b), (c), and (d) of this
section. However, an assistant chief instructor for a course of
training for gliders, balloons, or airships is only required to
have 40 percent of the hours required in paragraphs (b) and (d) of
