The Senior Vice President, Growth, Product, & Strategic Enablement will be responsible for directly leading three distinct, yet complementary teams: Growth (including business development, sales operations, capture and proposal), Product / Capabilities / Solutions, and Strategy Enablement. A curious, hands-on leader who works collaboratively across Optum Serve and the broader Optum & UHG organizations to align, influence and synchronize Optum Serve wide business initiatives and priorities that enable sustainable delivery and growth.



If you are located in Minnesota, Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, DC, you will have the flexibility to work remotely as you take on some tough challenges.



Primary Responsibilities:

Growth/Business Development:


  • Develop strategy and oversee performance of Business Development, Sales Operations and Capture/Proposal Management teams in close coordination with business units and other enterprise-wide growth partners
  • Provide strategic leadership and tactical management of business development and evaluation of potential partnerships including teaming partners to support growth opportunities and supporting inorganic growth opportunities such as M&A and joint ventures
  • Work with Growth Leader (direct report) in setting targets for sales representatives and business development team members
  • Oversee growth strategies and execution to expand revenue opportunities and capitalize on existing federal and commercial contracts in partnership with Optum Serve business unit leadership


    Product/Solutions/Capabilities:


    • Foster cross-functional and cross-team collaboration and consistency by working closely with product design, engineering, clinical care/leadership, client success, and business leaders
    • Define, Develop, Manage and Execute the product and capabilities roadmap tailored to improve delivery, drive growth, proposal of successful bids, meeting near and long-term financial objectives and ultimately a thoughtful and high-quality experience for our clients/customers


      Strategy Enablement:


      • Responsible for shaping overall Optum Serve Strategy, including in-year business plan, and 3-5-year strategy
      • Responsible for being the single coordination point for inorganic growth including Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and/or Joint Ventures
      • Takes on special initiatives and analysis as required by Optum Serve leadership
      • Strategic market and competitive intelligence (including market research)
      • Develop and provide market intelligence, including foundational insights/baseline (e.g., Optum Serve market assessment, sizing, curated industry reports)
      • Conducts targeted research (e.g., customer profiles, product mapping


        Conducts Bid Specific Activities, including:


        • Pricing strategy
        • Price-to-win
        • Non-price technical assistance
        • Blackhat

          Required Qualifications:


          • Bachelor's degree
          • 10+ years of relevant industry experience (healthcare, insurance, finance and/or consulting)
          • 5+ years in Federal Government contracting
          • 3+ years of experience developing business strategies and planning, including experience with market overviews, understanding competitive positioning, analyzing market trends, product and capability development, capital planning and understanding customer needs
          • Demonstrated performance in growing organizations and winning new work, understands the government procurement cycle; translating a vision into results and leading strategy execution
          • Ability to drive multiple priorities through a team; driving accountability
          • Aggressive, solid process and project management capabilities
          • Ability to quickly understand needs and act on those needs; ability to conceptualize and effectuate change management and "out of the box" thinking
          • Proven track record of accomplishing work through others and inspiring others through times of ambiguity; experience building and leading teams with high results orientation and a focus on innovation




            Preferred Qualifications:


            • Master's Degree
            • Strong preference for having experience in or working with a large federal agency (VA, DoD, HHS) to ensure customer is kept at the center of all we do
            • Superior conceptual, analytical and financial acumen
            • Experience driving approach to internal and external communications in partnership with Peers and Communications, Marketing, Congressional leaders and Military/Veteran Service Organizations.
            • Experience delivering results with large-scale, cross-functional teams in highly matrixed organizations
            • Solid communicator; capable of effectively presenting ideas and selling concepts and tactics; excellent negotiation skills, proven ability to communicate effectively with executive levels
