Illumina is seeking a Senior Director of Clinical Bioinformatics to lead overall delivery of informatic solutions that power Illumina's research and clinical assays. We are looking for an experienced bioinformatics leader that is passionate about employing sequencing technology and building data analysis algorithms to drive the future of personalized medicine. This is a unique opportunity to be a core contributor to Illumina's mission to unlock the power of the genome by creating our next generation clinical assays and industry leading bioinformatic algorithms.Location: The ideal candidate is based in San Diego, CA or within California with the ability to travel to San Diego on a regular basis. -Responsibilities

• Lead bioinformatics for design, delivery, and validation of research and clinical assays across oncology, genetics, and reproductive health
• Responsible for design and implementation of novel bioinformatics algorithms on the DRAGEN platform
• Experiment with new methods and technologies to advance Illumina's assay and bioinformatics platforms
• Drive continuous change in Illumina assay development processes to improve efficiency, development timelines, and quality
• Foster an environment of innovation and creativity by challenging the status quo and providing staff with career and scientific mentorship
• Build relationships with external customers, partners, and key opinion leaders and represent Illumina externally
• Minimize schedule and technical risk by foreseeing and addressing obstacles proactively and aggressively
• Help define and communicate the vision of clinical bioinformatics to the rest of the organization
  -Requirements
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related scientific field, and 10+ years of experience in developing complex life sciences products, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven track record of successfully leading major multi-disciplinary product development projects from concept to commercial release
  • Extensive experience developing Bioinformatics algorithms for multiple technologies (NGS and microarray) and domain areas (oncology, genetics, and reproductive health)
  • Broad experience building regulated lab developed tests, distributed IVD products, or regulated instrument systems
  • Must effectively balance research roadmap with execution-oriented product development projects
  • Ability to communicate and present complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Results oriented leader with 5+ years leading globally distributed teams; must have experience managing managers#LI-ONSITE #LI-HYBRID The estimated base salary range for the Sr Director Clinical Bioinformatics role based in the United States of America is: $216,200 - $324,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
