Salary:
Salary range from $69,630 to $113,916 for this 12 month Administrative Faculty role. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

Job Description:

The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Family Sciences at Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Founding Director of its new MSW Program. Demonstrated success or evidence of potential to excel in the creation and administration of CSWE accredited MSW program is highly desired.

The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Family Sciences is comprised of eight full-time faculty with a strong commitment to diversity, high quality teaching, service, and applied scholarship. There are approximately 180 majors working toward one of six bachelor's degrees who are drawn to the department for its commitment to building a more just and caring society. A commitment to excellent teaching in a Christian liberal arts context and possessing a potential for high quality scholarship and service are essential for a successful candidate. The university and department encourage candidates from historically marginalized groups to apply.

Please submit curriculum vitae, statement of teaching objectives and research interests, a statement on how the applicant will contribute to the university's commitment to diversity and inclusion, including applicant's knowledge of and experience with inclusive pedagogical practices in classroom teaching, advising, and mentoring, and three letters of recommendation online. Responsibilities:

  • Lead, create, and advance the Master of Social Work program from its inception through accreditation according to the CSWE's 2022 EPAS.
  • Effectively collaborate with diverse colleagues, students, agencies, community members.
  • Implement and inspire inclusive graduate teaching in a university that blends undergraduate liberal arts and graduate professional education.
  • Engage in scholarship relevant to social work.
  • Advise students academically, spiritually, and professionally
  • Participate on university committees and preform other normal faculty duties.

    Qualifications:
    • Education: MSW with at least two years post MSW experience required. A Ph.D./DSW in Social Work or a doctorate in a related field is highly desirable.
    • Experience: Demonstrated success or evidence of potential to excel in the creation and administration of CSWE accredited MSW program is highly desired. Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
    • Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination
    • Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant.

      Selection Process:

      • Evidence of successful teaching
