you develop and expand your career. -EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - DATA
PRIVACY OFFICER The Data Privacy Officer directs the Company's
privacy-related activities, specifically the collection,
processing, storage, disclosure, and use of personal data in
coordination with appropriate cross-functional members of the
organization. The position reports to the Chief Compliance Officer.
THE DATA PRIVACY OFFICER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING
TASKS:
- Design, develop, and implement appropriate privacy program
elements, including identifying appropriate policy frameworks,
developing staff and contractor training plans, and monitoring and
evaluating program efficacy.
- Track and synthesize emerging privacy trends, laws, and
regulations across the U.S. and internationally.
- Maintain subject matter expertise on relevant privacy laws and
regulations.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on programs
and projects involving the handling and sharing of personal
information within the company and with third parties, clients,
suppliers, and partners, to ensure personal information protection
obligations are met.
- Develop and implement organization-wide privacy policies and
procedures, including without limitation:
- Privacy policies and privacy notices;
- Authorization and consent forms;
- Individual requests for correction of or access to
information;
- Record retention and destruction protocols.
- Work with Legal to provide expertise on the development of data
sharing agreements, privacy schedules, and other legal
instruments.
- Collaborate across functional areas, including Legal, IT and
Internal Audit, to maintain organizational compliance with laws
regarding privacy, freedom of information, security, electronic
transactions, and protection of information assets.
- Advise on privacy impact assessments, support the completion of
risk assessments, and conduct related ongoing compliance monitoring
activities in consultation with company and contract
resources.
- Support the provision of effective and timely responses to
privacy breaches in accordance with the company's privacy breach
incident response plan.
- Assist in capturing, maintaining, analyzing, and interpreting
compliance data. Prepare regular reports for the senior leadership
and the Board of Directors to ensure consistent and adequate
privacy risk management.
- Review privacy-related complaints generated from the business
and provide guidance on remediation. Escalate and consult with
subject matter experts, when necessary to ensure that all
complaints are handled diligently and appropriately.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing
monitoring of all major new projects and initiatives, to ensure
privacy risks, concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are
addressed. -QUALIFICATIONS
- At least five years in a compliance, audit/risk or privacy role
within a health care company or clinical trial organization.
- CIPP Certification as an Information Privacy Professional
(CIPM, CIPP/C or CIPT).
- CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager) certification,
or CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) preferred. THE
IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
- Robust understanding of common privacy industry standards and
regulations and industry frameworks.
- Successful track record of thriving in both a highly regulated
industry and a fast paced, entrepreneurial, and dynamic
environment.
- Strong interest in building privacy program elements in the
research, development, and commercial biotech space.
- Clear results orientation and focus on achieving both short-
and long-term goals.
- Ability to navigate "white space" or ambiguous situations to
drive and execute an agenda in a fluid environment.
- Ability to champion privacy and communicate effectively to
cross-functional stakeholders about changing privacy requirements
and expectations.
- Ability to manage cross-functional projects/programs.
- Highly developed interpersonal, presentation, and
communications skills (written and oral) coupled with strategic
influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through
intellect, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Strong judgment, influencing skills, integrity, and discretion
in handling highly sensitive issues.
- Ability to effectively manage privacy risk assessments, and
risk mitigation efforts.
- Strong project management, process management, and
organizational skills.
- A collaborative, energetic, solution-oriented, and innovative
work ethic.
- Ability to balance operating independently with appropriate
escalation and interaction with staff and leadership.
