This Manager level role is responsible for business oversight and management of a team of Epic report writers/BI developers supporting multiple clients across a variety of engagement models. This role is responsible for acting as a primary advisor and mentor for all direct reports while building the Epic implementation and support teams for each assigned client.

The Epic Manager will help create and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion for our company and our clients.

The Epic Manager must be a self-motivated individual with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in team environments and a matrixed organizational structure.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Assist senior leadership in setting and driving the vision and strategy for the COE's reporting capabilities
  • Collaborate with other COE leadership to develop, implement, and maintain operational policies and guidelines, oversee program execution, and meet contractual terms and conditions
  • Supervise Epic system design, development, support, and other maintenance activities in compliance with IT standards of best practice
  • Represent the Epic reporting/BI team at high level customer and internal meetings around overall strategy
  • Hire, train and develop Epic analysts in all functional areas within scope of management
  • Manage Clarity Report Writers to create design specifications for new reports and identify and validate the appropriate technological solutions for various reporting needs
  • Provide technical direction, guidance and assistance during project development and accomplish all required formal signoffs
  • Determine staffing requirements for individual client engagements and supervise the work of all direct reports to ensure effective and efficient group functioning
  • Collaborate with end users to design and build the Epic system in a timely and professional manner and suggest corrective configuration or enhancements
  • Design and document the general functional requirements and detailed technical specifications for a report
  • Assist with Epic upgrades/updates by serving as a subject matter expert for the Epic Clarity data models
  • Develop, support, and maintain all required system design and build documents and other system documentation
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for incidents reported through the help desk, including 24/7 on call coverage as required
  • Adhere to organization standards for system configuration and change control
  • Develop solid relationships with end user communities, customers, and business partners
  • Attend, participate in, and contribute to meetings throughout the facility
  • Troubleshoot and/or resolve application issues and escalate more complex issues as appropriate
  • Provide support to create new reports, using third party report writing tools to display Clarity data

    Required Qualifications:


    • Bachelor's degree
    • 2 current Epic certifications with at 1 in Epic Data Model certification(s) including Clarity Data Model or other related modules
    • Completed Epic CEE (Continued Epic Education) to maintain certifications, proficiencies, and badges.
    • 7+ years combined experience across HealthCare and/or IT domains
    • 5+ years working with Epic applications
    • 2+ years resource management and/or large-scale project management
    • Experience using SQL query techniques and stored procedures to access relational databases with the ability to write efficient queries
    • Experience designing, creating, testing, and implementing complex reports using Crystal Reports and/or Business Objects Enterprise reporting tools
    • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
    • Ability to travel up to 25% annually, USA domestic locations. Travel may be lower depending on project requirements


      Preferred Qualifications:


      • Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Data Science or Healthcare
      • Certification in Service Management, Project Management, or Business Analysis -
      • Applicable database and reporting tool certifications desirable (Oracle, Microsoft, SAS, Cognos, etc.).
      • Clarity Administrator certification and experience -
      • Excellent team management, communication and leadership skills and a commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and a culture of innovation

          Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, or New York City Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada/New York City residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
