The VC EDI, through partnership and collaboration, directs the campus efforts relative to diversity initiatives, which includes the work of the Campus Community Centers, as well as the efforts of the Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion. The PATHways to STEM through Enhanced Access and Mentorship (PATHS) program is a longitudinal, high-touch, holistic support services program that facilitates the success of low income, first generation, underrepresented and other students who may be at higher risk of non-completion. PATHS offers the following service and transition programs: Summer Bridge, supplemental instruction, mentor led academic support, counseling and wrap around social services, learning communities, research and academic enrichment workshops on a range of topics relevant to student success and campus belonging. Under the direction of the Senior Diversity Officer and in support of the University's mission with respect to diversity and inclusion as well as the PATH's mission, the Director takes a leadership role in building community and creating a dynamic and thriving student experience within the University of California. The Director leads innovative efforts to provide an integrated approach to identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating PATHS programs and practices including outreach and yield, academic success, leadership and professional development, inclusion and retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience. The director provides creative leadership, strategic planning, and vision regarding the role the PATHS program plays in support of the academic and public service mission of UC San Diego. Serves as a member of the Vice Chancellor's leadership team and participates in Unit strategic planning and organizational development and serves as a subject matter expert to senior leaders in VC EDI. Incumbent undertakes special projects assigned by the Senior Diversity Officer, Vice Chancellor, or Chief of Staff that are often highly sensitive and/or confidential in nature. The incumbent works with senior leaders in VC EDI, the Director develops strategic plans and fundraising objectives for the unit. Works broadly across the university to establish and nurture campus-wide and community collaborations to educate and promote understanding and awareness of the PATHS program, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion issues; and provides expert consultation to members of the campus community. The Director acts as an information conduit, establishing effective communications between the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and the campus community to help leverage inclusive excellence and advance the equity, diversity, and inclusion change process and Inclusive Excellence Strategic Plan. Additionally, the Director is responsible for and oversees developing and managing community partnerships, industry partnerships, donor cultivation, operations and budget management, human resource management, grant writing and management, development and implementation of outreach outreach programs, development of PATHS program curriculum, readings and co-curricular activities offered to PATHS students during the academic year, partnering across campus to implement, as well as the development of training opportunities that incorporate understanding of student development and leadership principles in the day-to-day operation of the PATHS program. Through delegation to PATHS staff, this position provides oversight for individualized services, cohort based programs, learning communities, and enrichment opportunities that include developing academic and research plans, recognizing and addressing academic and non-academic barriers to academic success, and counseling or coaching on other life issues that impact academic progress and/or student retention. Programs specialize in services that have particular relevance and impact for underrepresented groups including leadership development, cultural competence, community building, and raising awareness about resources and graduate school. * Please submit a cover letter for a complete application. QUALIFICATIONS ============== * Advanced Degree and at least five to seven (5 - 7) years of experience as a high level manager at a university or college; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Proven ability to communicate effectively and to establish relationships of trust with students and/or student organizations. Experience working closely and successfully with underrepresented student populations in university settings. * Advanced knowledge of learning strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting. * Solid knowledge and experience working with college students from diverse populations, identities, and language backgrounds with special emphasis on the success of low income, first generation, and historically underrepresented and underserved students. * Advanced knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development. Advanced knowledge of higher education, student development and persistence, and diverse learning environments and how these theories inform practice of counseling, learning, and program development. * Strong experience in managerial, administrative, and supervisory practices and principles; strong and creative organization, analytic, and decision-making/problem-solving skills. Ability to develop innovative approaches, techniques and procedures to provide more efficient and responsive services. * Knowledge/experience in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including an understanding of the historical and social context of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and of the complexities of the intersections of identities including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, and class background. * Advanced knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines. * Strong political acumen skills and ability to apply in diverse, complex organization. Ability to actively and collaboratively identify and pursue external donors and funding agencies with interest in innovative ideas in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion. * Demonstrated experience developing activities and programs that will facilitate personal and professional development of graduate and undergraduate students. * Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and/or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees. * Knowledge of human resource management concepts and practices, with ability to supervise professional staff, fostering innovation, service and accountability and to give clear instructions and guidelines, delegating and assigning tasks, monitoring production and quality of work, setting performance standards and assessing individual capabilities and workloads, and assuring employee development. * Knowledge of a broad range of related areas including retention strategies, succession planning models competency development, campus climate issues, diversity and change management. Knowledge of the concepts of business and financial management principles. Ability to understand, analyze and interpret financial information and to identify necessary action plan. * Ability to work with faculty, staff, and students on program development for co/extra-curricular activities such as faculty lectures, symposia, and conferences. Advanced working knowledge of stewardship as it relates to philanthropic donations and/or grant awards. SPECIAL CONDITIONS ================== * A background check is required. Duties may require direct contact and/or supervision of children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form will be required.
