Senior Product Designer for our growing Government Systems team.
This team builds products and services that primarily support
military users, on and off the battlefield.That includes providing
resilient internet access on the planes that carry our nation's
leaders, encrypting confidential communications, and enabling
secure networks to be set up quickly in the field.We work with all
branches of the military, including Space Force and Special Forces.
Our products take on tough technical tasks. Making those tasks easy
to use under pressure makes for challenging UX.For our military and
civilian users, great designs are the ones that make complex data
streams simple to process, reduce cognitive load, and enable quick
decisions. Done right, our design work can save precious minutes,
focus our users' attention, and ultimately, save lives. Job
Responsibilities Our Senior Designer will participate in the the
design process end to end - envisioning future concepts, defining
flows, crafting detailed interaction designs and prototypes,
getting user feedback, and supporting delivery. You'll share
resources and frameworks with Viasat's wider Customer Experience,
Research and Design team, and you'll play a key role in building
tools and practices that work for government and military context.
More importantly, you'll help engineers and product leads
understand great UX and become more fluent in Human Centered
Design.Here's what you can expect to do in your first 6 monthsBy
month 1..
- Work with a product team on improving existing features
- Immerse yourself in user insight, cultural context, and
technical specifics of your product
- Review the future product roadmap, and calling out user issues
and design opportunities
- Understand the Viasat design systemBy month 3..
- Interview experts, technicians, and soldiers
- Lead team work sessions to explore upcoming features
- Support a 2nd product team or a major feature
- Present your work to the design communityBy month 6..
- Support the UX overhaul of a legacy product
- Explore UX implications for an early-stage product
- Add new components or patterns to the design system
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing human-centered digital
products, with specific experience building user dashboards
- Strong portfolio outlining user/business understanding,
ideation, interaction, and visual design across a wide range of
user experiences. We want to see a clear "thread" from user insight
through to design tradeoffs, validation, and detailed
execution
- Ability to think and design in terms of systems not just
interface elements
- Experience working on or applying a design system
- Ability to create high-fidelity mockups of your designs in
Figma and Sketch
- Experience collaborating with business, engineering, and others
and helping them understand the design process
- Proven ability to own the design of a major feature, from
concept to delivery
- Understanding of the agile software lifecycle and ability to
engage with frontend and backend engineering teams to iterate and
achieve the best solutions Preferred Requirements
- A Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital
Media, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Product Design,
Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science or
related field - or commensurate work experience.

position as well as your background and experience. The starting
salary for this position is $113,800 annually, but an offered
salary may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and
experience. This position may also be eligible for other cash or
