Position Summary:

We are growing our service operations to include testing for SARS-CoV-2. As a bioinformatics scientist supporting Illumina Laboratory Services, you will play an integral role in developing and sustaining genomics solutions to support operations utilizing Next Generation Sequencing applications, including COVIDSeq, and Illumina Array Genotyping in a regulated clinical laboratory. Primary responsibilities will include pipeline implementation and automation, structuring and analysis of large genomic data sets, and providing general bioinformatics support to the Operations teams within the ILS organization. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the largest sequencing laboratories in the world, assist in building a team culture, and help keep our communities safe as we test samples from thousands of patients for SARS-CoV-2 using Illumina technology.

Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Design, implement and automate pipelines to address novel analytical challenges so that thousands of studies can be processed in a robust manner
• Gather data for mining and apply best practice statistical/computational methods to generate data models and analysis for large-scale biological data, such as gene expression, copy-number, genotyping, methylation, next-generation sequencing, etc.
• Provide rapid and customer focused support to resolve production challenges with current products, in a fast-paced high-volume regulated lab operations environment.
• Maintain familiarity with current scientific computing approaches.
• Stay current with the fields of NGS and genotyping applications.
• Engage in collaborative project teams to bring new assays into production
  
  Experience:
  
  • 
    
  • Expertise programming in one or more of Python, Go, shell scripting, and/or C/C++/C#
  • Knowledge of biology and current bioinformatics/genomics/proteomics resources available at NCBI, Ensembl, UCSC, Broad Institute, etc.
  • Background in oncology or genomics
  • Strong experience in data analysis and pipeline development
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Experience in machine learning is preferred
  • Ability to contribute independently and collaboratively, and to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Clinical laboratory experience a plus
    
    Education:
    
    • 
      
    • Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience, or a PhD without experience, or equivalent work experience
    • Field of study in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Computer Science preferred.
