Position Summary:

We are seeking energetic laboratory staff to help us unpack and accession in-bound samples for COVID-19 testing. These samples will be tested using Illumina's COVIDseq assay, which is the only NGS assay with EUA for testing patients for COVID-19. We are hiring multiple positions on ALL shifts; morning shift (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM), the evening shift (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM), OR night shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) (Times are subject to change based on site location) for our ultra high-throughput sequencing laboratory. Clinical Laboratory Scientist 1

Each individual performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.

Each individual performing high complexity testing must-

• 
  
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results;
• Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens;

  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed;
  • Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance;
  • Revise Work Instructions as required;
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Lab Director;
  • Takes immediate action when confronted with a problem;
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties to meet timelines;
  • Ability to clearly communicate WIP (work in progress) to next shift;
  • Able to communicate issues with equipment to engineering via ticketing system.
    
    Clinical Laboratory Scientist 2
    
    • 
      
    • All Clinical Laboratory Scientist 1 responsibilities;
    • Trains other CLS personnel in laboratory methods and trains CLTs to assist CLSs in the laboratory method;
    • Participates in activities required to support all necessary licensure for the clinical laboratory, including quality management functions and on-site inspections of the laboratory;
    • May be required to assist in assay development activities;
    • Can take multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving;
    • Perform analyses of processes, identify gaps and deficiencies;
    • Able to assist investigations and resolution of technical problems within own discipline, with oversight.;
    • Able to propose new ways to perform work that maximizes the outcome for the project or team when environment changes;
    • Efficient and high level of performance.
      
      Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Senior
      
      • 
        
      • All Clinical Laboratory Scientist 1 and 2 responsibilities;
      • Selects, implements, and evaluate results for Quality Control materials used in statistical process control of laboratory assays;
      • Troubleshoots assays and equipment for which QC materials fail to perform adequately.;
      • Expert in high complexity molecular testing;
      • Able to contribute in investigation and resolution of technical problems within discipline;
      • Ability to solve cross-functional problems in collaboration with others in those departments;
      • Understands reasons behind laboratory rules and helps others in understanding and following them;
      • Enforce H&S rules at all times in the lab;
      • Identifies creative solutions that have impact beyond a single project;
      • Identifies areas for efficiency improvements and takes action;
      • Escalation of issues at appropriate time;
      • Actively shares information to Supervisor, the team, and cross-functional teams as needed;
      • Seeks out opportunity to mentor junior members of team.
        
        Education and Experience:
        
        • 
          
        • Current California CLS license
        • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting; preferably with experience in a high complexity molecular testing environment.
        • Ability to read, understand, and comply with detailed procedures that ensure the safety of all.
        • Must be flexible to work different shifts, such as weekends and evenings.
        • Demonstrated ability to work both independently, following detailed work instructions, and as part of a cohesive team that together completes daily sample intake and processing in a timely manner.
        • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties to meet timelines.
        • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills are essential.
        • Detail-oriented and conscientious.
        • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting; preferably with experience in a high complexity molecular testing environment. Duration of experience:

          • Clinical Laboratory Scientist 1 - 6 months preferred but not required.
          • Clinical Laboratory Scientist 2 - minimum 1 year, 2 years experience preferred.
