The Department of Medicine is responsible for fulfilling the
teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of
California, San Diego and employs 500+ full-time salaried faculty
members and 150+ academic appointees. Staff personnel include 800+
staff in 9 bargaining units, students, and volunteers.
There are over 250 clinical faculties practicing at multiple sites
and hospitals. Professional fee billings for the department exceed
$50 million with collections of over $19 million per year. The
total annual budget is approximately $200 million, which includes
contract and grant revenues, clinical practice and medical center
funds, and other state and private endowment funds.
Under supervision from Principal Investigator and Sponsored Project
Administrator in the Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine
Division, the Lab Technician supports the translational research
efforts for a variety of research projects focusing primarily on
lung inflammation and host defenses. Responsible for independently
coordinating and managing research studies, to include writing and
updating protocols, running cellular and molecular assays, running
mouse studies, data collection and entry, troubleshooting and
The Lab Technician will assist in the conduct of murine studies by
ensuring IACUC protocol compliance, keeping anesthetic drugs up to
date, monitoring animals, running physiologic studies and obtaining
blood and tissue samples, and maintenance of accurate and complete
research notebooks and data files.
Theoretical knowledge as required in a Bachelor's Degree in
biology, immunology, microbiology, or related field; or a
combination of education and experience.
Experience working in a laboratory research setting with knowledge
of protocols, principles and standards.
Demonstrated experience with interpretation and understanding of

the InExpose system by Scireq.
Experience assessing lung function, including airway resistance,
lung compliance, elastance, and responses to methacholine
challenge, via the FlexiVent system by SciReq.
Experience harvesting mouse tissues, including brain, trachea,
