Title: Registered Nurse (RN)/Per DiemLocation: PRN (San Diego, CA)Job Description:ERG is a leading U.S. based, privately held, independent clinical research site company, and provider of clinical development services with an expertise in early and late stage neuroscience drug development. With 22 wholly owned clinical sites and 5 affiliated sites, we conduct in-patient and out-patient phase I-IV clinical research studies. ERG has 340+ in-patient beds, a large and growing database of patients suffering from mental illness, neurological disorders, sleep disorders, addictions, Acute and Chronic Pain, diabetes and other illnesses as well as normal healthy volunteers who participate in trials for the advancement of medicine. With access to over 32 million patients/subjects and 5000 + completed trials, ERG continues to grow its capabilities and expand into indications where there are tremendous unmet medical needs in the United States and globally.The Registered Nurse will perform a variety of activities related to the clinical area, including medical support systems and assisting medical personnel with study participants care duties as assigned. Incumbents work under supervision of clinical staff, performing routine duties and primarily, referring questions and problems to the Clinical Research Coordinator assigned to study or the PI.Responsibilities:Clinical:Performs study events and collects clinical data as per protocol requirementsAdministers study drug as assignedWhen assigned, serve as Pharmacy StaffDiscusses and administers Informed Consent Form, as assigned (dependent on site)Notifies appropriate staff of abnormal results while collecting data, adverse events, or unusual incidentsAssures minimal discomfort for study participants while performing all dutiesHas working knowledge of telemetry monitoring and interpretation of tracingsMaintains safety and well-being of study participants during assigned shiftHas knowledge of Holter monitor skillsPrepares participants for eventsUnderstands all functions of telemetry monitoring machineCollects all telemetry tracings for licensed personnel to reviewMust be able to use proper advanced life support equipment and suppliesMaintains skills in the use of ECG machine, taking accurate vital signs and IV insertionKeeps apprised of all new OSHA, BLS, ACLS and GCP/ICH rules, regulations, and proceduresPerforms initial evaluation of adverse eventKnowledge of drug reactions and the synergistic effects of drugs combined with other medicinesMust be able to apply basic principles of mathematics to the calculation of problems associated with medication dosagesMust be capable of providing advanced life support emergency medical services, including conducting of and interpreting ECGs, electrical interventions to support cardiac functions, performing advanced endotracheal intubations in airway management and relief of pneumothorax and administering of appropriate intravenous fluids and drugs under direction of a designated physicianMust be capable of staying focused while assuming the leadership role inherent in carrying out the functions of the positionMust be able to provide top quality care and concurrently handle high levels of stressAdministrative:Reads and understands each protocol in which he/she is involvedMaintains knowledge and understanding of SOP for data collectionMaintains accurate and neat documentation records as required by the protocolFollows proper safety procedures and reports to supervisor immediately all injuries, unsafe practices, and unusual incidentsKnows OSHA and GCP/ICH rules and regulations and complies with all requirementsPerforms inventory of supplies needed and reports deficiencies to clinical staff supervisorStays on duty/assigned shift until relieved by oncoming staffEducational:Maintains current licensure, registration and/or certification within educational backgroundMaintains current BLS and/or ACLS certificationMaintains necessary CEU's for licensure, registration and/or certificationAssist in training new Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Medical/ Nursing Assistants (MA, NA) and Phlebotomy TechnicianActively participates on CPMI's ongoing Quality Assurance Program, HIPAA, and Compliance ProgramsKeeps apprised of all new OSHA and GCP/ICH Rules and RegulationsAttends all appropriate team meetings regarding study protocolsLearns and maintains skills in use of EKG machines and taking accurate vital signsReads and understands site policy and procedures manuals, SOP manual, and employee handbookAdditional Responsibilities:Complies with all site policies and procedures, especially those regarding protocol confidentialityDemonstrates a caring, professional attitude and behavior toward study participants and staff, actively contributing to the well-being and dignity of the clinicMaintains an overall good work attitude, promoting cooperation and professionalism and interactions with other staff membersMaintains assigned work areas in a clean, safe condition, and reports any potential hazards immediatelyPerforms all other duties as properly assignedSkills and Qualifications:Education and experienceLicensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the applicable state with ACLS Certification and a minimum of one year experience as anRN in a medical facility;Clinical Research experience preferred but not requiredACLS certification required;RequirementsUnderstands regulatory requirements, as well as Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and International Conference of Harmonization (ICH) guidelines.Knowledgeable in medical terminologyGood organizational and interpersonal skillsAttention to detail.Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, verbal)Basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, as well as proprietary applications unique to the clinical research industry (such as RealTime)
