Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital under Destination Petis looking
urgently for a Lead Veterinary Technician!
Core Responsibilities:
- Supports Mission, Vision and Values of Destination Pet.
- Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and
comfortable
- Training, supervising, and assisting technicians in their
performance of a variety of technical and client education
duties.
- Providing guidance and direction to subordinates, including
setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
- Conducting timely performance evaluations, mediate
interpersonal problems and address concerns
- Making recommendations to the practice manager concerning
personnel matters and assist with follow through of disciplinary
actions.
- Assisting veterinarians to provide compassionate nursing
care
- Performing cursory exams and prepping animals for aseptic
surgery
- Monitoring anesthetic patients
- Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing surgical instruments and
equipment
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian, and
explaining prescription directions
- Assisting receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures
and providing telephone support
- Performing various laboratory tests
- Suggesting dietary products and other services to clients
- Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained
- Performs other duties as assigned. Veterinary Technician Skills
and Qualifications
- Knowledge of Animal Behavior, Animal Husbandry, Documentation
Skills, Analyzing Information, Clinical Skills, creating a Safe,
Effective Environment, Performing Diagnostic Procedures, Use of
Medical Technologies, Attention to Detail, Patience, Verbal
Communication Expertise & Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a veterinary technician
- Displays a professional manner at all times
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 hourly
Job Type: Full-time
