Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital under Destination Petis looking urgently for a Lead Veterinary Technician!
Core Responsibilities:

• Supports Mission, Vision and Values of Destination Pet.
• Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable
• Training, supervising, and assisting technicians in their performance of a variety of technical and client education duties.
• Providing guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
• Conducting timely performance evaluations, mediate interpersonal problems and address concerns
• Making recommendations to the practice manager concerning personnel matters and assist with follow through of disciplinary actions.
• Assisting veterinarians to provide compassionate nursing care
• Performing cursory exams and prepping animals for aseptic surgery
• Monitoring anesthetic patients
• Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment
• Maintaining accurate medical records
• Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian, and explaining prescription directions
• Assisting receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and providing telephone support
• Performing various laboratory tests
• Suggesting dietary products and other services to clients
• Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained
• Performs other duties as assigned. Veterinary Technician Skills and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Animal Behavior, Animal Husbandry, Documentation Skills, Analyzing Information, Clinical Skills, creating a Safe, Effective Environment, Performing Diagnostic Procedures, Use of Medical Technologies, Attention to Detail, Patience, Verbal Communication Expertise & Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience as a veterinary technician
    • Displays a professional manner at all times
      Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 hourly
      Job Type: Full-time
