Salary: $65,000 - $90,000 per year A bit about us: We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Mineral & Gem Assistant to join our team. This individual will be responsible for assisting with the curation and preservation of our extensive mineral and gem collection. The successful candidate will have a strong background in gemology and earth sciences, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for preserving and sharing the beauty of the natural world. The Mineral & Gems Assistant will also have an administrative background, as there are administrative components to take care of in the office when not traveling, photographing, documenting rocks, etc. This position is fully on-site in San Clemente. There is also 50-70% travel involved to various shows, mines (domestic and international travel). Job Details Responsibilities: Assist in the management, organization, and preservation of our mineral and gem collection. Conduct detailed research and provide accurate information about each item in our collection. Work closely with our team to develop and implement strategies for collection growth and preservation. Photograph and catalog new additions to our collection, ensuring that each item is accurately represented and documented. Help to develop and maintain a database of our collection, including detailed records of each item's origin, characteristics, and value. Assist in the planning and execution of public exhibitions and educational programs. Work with a variety of stakeholders, including researchers, educators, and the general public, to promote understanding and appreciation of our collection. Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in gemology and earth sciences, and apply this knowledge to your work. Qualifications: A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role. A degree in gemology, earth sciences, or a related field. Extensive knowledge of a wide variety of minerals and gems. Experience with collection management and preservation techniques. Proficiency in photography and cataloging. Strong research and information management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A passion for education and public outreach.
