Illumina sequencers generate data on an enormous scale, and the
process of transforming raw image data into actionable
interpretations (known as "secondary analysis") is a critical
challenge for all applications of genomics. As a company, we have

The Principal Software Engineer plays a key role in leading the
integration of Illumina secondary analysis into new Illumina
sequencing instruments. As a technical leader, you will quickly
come to understand the demands of the software and the
possibilities and constraints of the hardware platforms, and do
what it takes to deliver high-performance compute systems on new
Illumina instruments.
You will succeed in this position through your quick technical
understanding, your ability to listen and learn from a broad
variety of technical experts, your ability to communicate clearly,
and your ability to form relationships and build influence across
the organization. It is a role that requires technical leadership
qualities, without being a management role.
We need you to see risks, keep status clear, understand schedules,
clarify requirements, help bring together the right people into
conversation, and act as the hub and source of technical state of
these richly complex integration projects.
This role is performed at our San Diego headquarters or hybrid
onsite/remote in the San Diego market.

The estimated base salary range for the Principal Software Engineer
(Technical Lead) role based in the United States of America is:
$180,100 - $270,100. Should the level or location of the role
change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may
be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on
several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's
qualifications, location where the role is to be performed,
internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all
employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus
or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the
