Position Summary:

As the Simulation Director for the (Health Resources and Services Administration) HRSA grant funded initiative entitled “Simulation Virtual Healthcare System Model Project”, this position will focus on the strategic planning and implementation of a department-wide framework, to promote the implementation of simulation-based education (SBE) activities for interprofessional teams of faculty, staff and students. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Community Affairs in Health, the Simulation Director will be responsible for the planning, designing, implementing, and evaluation of simulation-based learning across the nursing curriculum. This role will be expected to train faculty and staff in the participation of SBE activities through attendance at in-house workshops and external seminars and webinars. This role is crucial to the development and implementation of virtual and augmented reality platforms designed to advance nursing simulation-based education. The Simulation Director position assists in identifying potential vendors specializing in virtual and augmented reality and gamification technologies designed for nursing education. This position is funded by a two-year HRSA grant and is expected to establish National University as a leader in the field of healthcare simulation, and to ensure the development of needed skills in public health nursing practice, in collaboration with teams of interprofessional healthcare providers in community-based settings.

Essential Functions:

Leads the integration of simulation/instructional technologies throughout the COPS and DON curricula

Uses evidence-based simulation models to design, implement, evaluate, and standardize educational programs for faculty/staff development in the use of clinical simulation, debriefing, and assessment

Mentors faculty, clinicians, and staff in the design of curriculum involving clinical simulation

Ensures instruction is consistent with national professional standards for clinical practice

Collects data on learning outcomes for simulation exercises and collaborates with faculty/staff educators on disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentation at professional conferences

Institutes continuous quality improvement strategies for simulation program improvement

Prepares for accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare

Adheres to the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) standards for best practice in simulation.

Inspires the advancement of simulation research

Work in collaboration with nursing clinical lab directors and the nursing simulation operations specialist

Requirements:

Education & Experience

Doctoral degree in healthcare or related field

Certified in Simulation Education (preferred)

Five years’ experience in Simulation-based education and training, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety, and implementation of innovative simulation-based education and training

Nursing curriculum development and assessment

A health care setting

A health care management or leadership role

Evidence of scholarship contributions in the field of clinical nursing practice

Ability to participate as an active team member of the team and organization and work toward a common goal.

Accepts personal accountability, proactively seeks resolution for personal limitations head-on; and supports honesty and respect towards others, the company and oneself.

Actively seeks to influence, build effective relationships, and gain alignment with peers, functional partners, and/or external partners to accomplish business objectives.

Develops new insights into situations; questions conventional approaches; encourages new ideas and innovations; designs and implements new or cutting-edge programs/processes. Ability to generate and/or recognize imaginative or creative solutions that generate successful outcomes.

Uses a visionary approach to simulation education in clinical and academic settings

Demonstrates ability to plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of simulation education.

Intermediate use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook.

Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects, deadlines, and frequently changing priorities.

Ability to drive towards achieving measurable and challenging goals to support organizational success. Demonstrates the ability to focus on achieving results consistent with the organization’s objectives. As a leader, develops goals based on the organization’s vision, mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individual of constituencies in a diverse community.
