How will you make an impact?
The division is at the forefront of the COVID pandemic providing
instruments, testing and services, fulfilling our mission to enable
our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. The
Director Finance, FP&A and GSS will play a dual role leading
the financial planning and analysis activities for the division and
be the business partner to the VP/General Manager for the Global
Services & Support (GSS) business unit.
The Finance Director will report to the VP Finance and lead a
team of 9 people (managers and individual contributors).
What will you do?
Division FP&A: Responsibilities include leading the division
FP&A activities associated with: Annual operating plans; Annual
strategic plans; Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly business results;
and business support at the division level. This position will work
closely with the division VP of Finance, the division Finance
Leadership Team, and the Division leadership team. This is a $5B+
division within Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Global Services & Support: The Global Services & Support
organization is a team including Service Engineers, Field
Application Scientists and Technical Application Scientists,
Customer Care and Training. This position owns the end-to-end
P&L for the business, associated FP&A activities, and works
closely with the business unit General Manager and his leadership
team to develop and execute strategies to drive growth and
profitability for the business unit. Responsibilities include
leading the business unit FP&A activities similar to that at
the division level role and provision of global business support to
ensure sound business decisions relating to customer and asset
level profitability, investments, operational capacity
optimization, pricing, sales, new service introductions, and
operating cost management. GSS is a $300M+ business unit.
FP&A leadership of a $5B+ division, and business support for
a $300M+ services business.
Lead all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial
processes to include month-end close, reporting,
planning/forecasting and analytics activities at the division and
Identify, monitor, and articulate key operating metrics,
mitigate business risks and aggressively pursue opportunities to
deliver on growth and earnings expectations in the annual operating
Lead the division and GSS annual operating plan process as well
as play a key role in the annual strategic planning process
Partner closely with GSS leadership teams to help drive
improvements in the areas of sales, pricing, go to market, new
product launches, business solutions, and operational capacity.
Ensure sound investment decision recommendations and performance
(e.g. R&D, Capital Equipment, Acquisitions, and Sales
Develop a “best in class” finance staff and function. Lead a
team of 9 individuals.
Implementation and oversight of appropriate systems,
control/process standards, and drive continuous improvement
Safeguard company property and assets embedding financial
internal controls, compensatory controls and/or risk mitigation
plans into the areas of responsibility.
Champion other ad-hoc projects and initiatives, as assigned or
as self-identified areas for improvement.
How will you get here?
Education A degree in Finance or Accounting, preferably an MBA,
CPA or CMA certification.
Experience Minimum 10 years of related experience in financial
and operational analysis, reporting and accounting leadership
within a large, multi-national company
Significant related experience in financial leadership roles,
preferably within a large, complex service and manufacturing
Controllership and people management experience.
Experience with a tier I (preferably SAP) ERP system.
Experience in PowerBI/Tableau/automated tools a plus.
Demonstrated history of driving businesses to improve
Strong team building and people development skills and the
proven ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to develop high levels of
credibility and forge solid and positive professional relationships
with upper management, peers and subordinates are prerequisites to
success in this position.
