Denny Sanford committed $100 million towards the creation of the T. Denny Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion at UC San Diego. This gift establishes a virtual institute to study the neurobiological basis of empathy and compassion and implement training models for physician education (medical students through practicing physicians) to effectively teach the practice of compassion for self and others.With the establishment of the Institute, investments will be made towards expanding subject matter expertise through key professorships, seed funding for research and collaborative projects, and appointment of research fellows and scholars. Additional activities include the establishment of an annual international conference, integration of new methods into the medical school curriculum, enhancing the Student- Run Free Clinic and establishment of various centers.The Academic Technologist will demonstrate expertise in creation and revision of curriculum in accordance with sound instructional design principles. This position supports faculty in collaborative program review, assessment, and improvement processes and aids faculty in troubleshooting curricular challenges. Incumbent facilitates design meetings with faculty and professional practitioners and manages course revisions in collaboration with development team, including program chairs, subject matter experts, librarians, media designer, etc. Defines behaviorally-based learning outcomes and create course assessments. Determines appropriate instructional strategies and delivery technologies to meet objectives. Assess business constraints, audience characteristics, technical environment, budget, and other factors to determine the right media and technologies to deliver the learning. This position acts as lead designer and project manager responsible for executing the end-to-end analysis, design, and development process for individual projects. Serves as the intellectual lead to collaborate with faculty and academic component leadership at the institution to manage the design process, sets standards for faculty, and develops learning resources to ensure the institutions overall quality plan for instruction is being met Provides central oversight, technical leadership, and guidance to support academic components in the creation of accessible online learning objects and course content (including video, audio and multimedia production and accessibility compliance) Provides assistance in the development and remediation of course materials Coordinates, facilitates, and provides online course development services and faculty training. Coordinates online instructional design projects from inception to completion Provides instructional design and course development support to online faculty. Assists in the development of online instructional strategies, course materials, and assessments in accordance with researched best practices. Designs, develops, facilitates, and maintains training curriculum. Researches and recommends online learning technology solutions.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Nine ((9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelors degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.
  • Advanced knowledge of a health professions education program curriculum and requirements.
  • Experience in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of academic content in an online environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals. Advanced knowledge of LMS platforms including Coursera, Canvas, EdX and Articulate 360.
  • In-depth knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program.
  • Excellent communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Ability to handle sensitive personal information with appropriate discretion and judgment.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills. Skills to work collaboratively coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization. Successful experience working with people with a wide range of backgrounds and skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to lead a team, prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule. Advanced personal organization skills and ability to apply to administration of the entire program including organizing critical files for compliance.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
