Description:Assembles, cuts, and grinds metal structural parts to include plates, bulkheads, strong backs, turnbuckles, and come-along. Aligns parts in relation to each other. Tacks and welds foundation and structural members. Performs layout work according to blueprints or reference lines. Marks location of holes to be drilled drives wedges and installs temporary fasteners to hold the part in place for welding.Working with presses, floor shaping, forming plates, shaping from templates, marking symbols, doors, hatches and scuttles, rolls, presses and blacksmith shopLaying out blueprints and outfitting itemsLaying out blueprints, checking and fitting materials, tack welding of various sub-assemblies peculiar to the panel line and shell area such as decks, bulkheads, side shellsWorking on ship ways with the erection of units and installation of structural itemsInstallation of structural outfit items, doors, ladders, foundationsEffective sequencing of assembly and fittingCorrect use of heating torches in plate heat straightening and shrinkageAbility to use hand and power toolsShop and field fabricationAdherence to industry codes, regulations, and specificationsComprehend blueprints, sketches, and templatesTack weldingInstall simple systems without templates and blueprintsBulkhead and deck insertingRiveted and deck insertingRead and understand the Chemist and Competent Persons report and determine if job sites, particularly those involving combustible material, are safe for personnel and hot workSkills:tack weld, tack welding, blueprint reading, blueprint, outfitting, shipfitting, FCAW, SMAW, Burning, Scarfing, T-1 WeldingTop Skills Details:tack weld,tack welding,blueprint reading,blueprint,outfitting,shipfitting,FCAW,SMAW,Burning,ScarfingAdditional Skills & Qualifications:Minimum two years of journeyman level experience. Knowledge of blueprint reading, ship terminology, and identify different types of metals. Good burning, welding and craftsmanship skills. Mechanical ability preferred. T-1 welding certificate required for FCAW, SMAW is optional but highly recommended. Ability to pass a hands-on assessment test conducted by NASSCO. Must know welding and tacking, burning and scarfing, tools and equipment, math and measurements, fitting processes and procedures, ship terminology, and blueprint interpretationMust be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions. Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings. Must be able to operate welding machine, hand tools, and high reach equipment.
