Scientist-Direct Hire-San Diego-Up to 105k

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated Assay Development Scientist to join our talented team based at our site in San Diego.

This role is permanent, fulltime and you will assist in the development of diagnostic assays.
You will also assist in creating new experiments, as well as analyzing and interpreting the results. You will largely work independently with responsibility and accountability for delivering a project workstream or a Key Technical Challenge, within your project team. You will guide less experienced team members / colleagues to deliver experimental objectives. Ensure completion of experiments and production of robust experimental data, conclusions and recommendations on-time and to an appropriate level of accuracy.

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Accountable for the delivery, scheduling, design, planning and analysis of multiple experiments in line with project timelines.
- Report and present outcome of experiments and recommend next steps.
- Deliver technical solutions to complex problems identified during the course of experiments.
- Propose experiments to progress delivery of key areas of your program.
- Propose experiments that lead to efficient integration of reagents within the strip and meter to enhance and optimize assay performance.
- Understand cost implications of experiments under your control.

Essential Skills:
- Degree qualified in a relevant scientific discipline related to desirable skills below.
- Ability and desire to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
- Highly motivated individual that can demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to assist other members of the group when needed.
- Self-driven, takes ownership and demonstrates high levels of personal accountability, and is motivated to complete the goals and objectives.
- Knowledge and understanding of the process of iterative design optimization.
- Skills in problem solving and innovation.
- Knowledge of diagnostic immunoassay technology.
- Ability to write clear and concise protocols for complex assay methodologies.
- Ability to follow a protocol precisely and offer recommendations for improvements.
- Ensure laboratory books and other records are completed accurately and timely.
- Computer literacy and data analysis skills.
- Experience with standard DNA and protein purification.
- Experience of using particle-based immunoassays.
- Understanding of factors important to reagent stability, non-specific binding, batch to batch variability and assay interferences.
- Knowledge of fluorescent detection methods.
- Knowledge of reagent/conjugation chemistry.
- Experience with whole blood based assays.
- Knowledge of validation and verification testing.
- Experience of GMP / GLP / GDP standards.
- Experience and understanding of factors important in reagent preparation and drying for use in immunoassays.
- Experience working in the IVD industry.
- Knowledge and experience of working within a biohazard environment.
