Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to jump start your career in the
financial industry. The Junior Commercial Specialist is an
entry-level position within the Commercial Lending Associate
Program. Commercial Lending consists of Real Estate and Non- Real
Estate products with annual net growth of $2 Billion. Our
department goal is helping internal partners run their businesses
more effectively through our focus on the "digital strategy." This
is achieved through projects supporting our loan origination system
and along with other tools within the technology stack. We also
provide support to our external clients through servicing and
portfolio management efforts utilizing our new Commercial portal.
You will gain exposure to critical aspects within lending to build
a robust knowledge base for a career within the financial industry!
Responsibilities This is an immersive program for candidates
interested in gaining exposure to Commercial Lending. This is a
2-year full-time opportunity with formal 1-year rotations designed
to provide a broad overview of lending while focusing on supporting
the team that you are part of. Goal of this program is to learn
about various parts of the business applying previously gained
knowledge to new processes. At the conclusion of the program,
associates can become a full-time employee within one of the
related business units based on current opportunities, company
needs, and desired career path and skill set. Rotations: Candidates
will be assigned to rotations within the four areas of Commercial
Operations based on prioritized business needs. The sequence of the
rotations will be tailored to the company's needs matched with the
associate's strengths, experience, and development progress. Timing
and length of rotations will be 1 year due to the significant
learning curve within the space. There can be exceptions to
decrease or increase assignments based on workload and business
needs. A listing and summary of the four teams is listed below:
- Commercial Operations & Technology - BPM and project management
supporting partners within the tech and process space
- Commercial Transaction Management - Processing and doc
collection, loan pipeline management, conduit to external
partners
- Commercial Servicing - Manage post close borrower and client
requests like changes and updates to loans
- Commercial Finance & Analytics - Reporting, dashboarding and
data analytics highlighting current state and opportunities
Professional Development: Training focuses on essential skills for
a career in Commercial Lending and will provide the associate with
the understanding on how the various areas interact with each other
during the originations process. Training will include exposure to
Axos Bank leadership both inside and outside of the Operations
space. An emphasis will be placed on process and continuous
improvements across the organization. Associates will have a direct
impact on driving bank efficiencies by working on meaningful
projects along with a capstone project towards the end of the
program. Responsibilities:
- Operations & Technology
- Support process improvement initiatives by analyzing business
functions, gathering info, and evaluating system capabilities
- Develop technical requirements documents by working with
business and technical stakeholders
- Prepare process map and procedure documentation to support
changes to new and existing processes
- Implements methods for improving and establishing controls for
critical processes
- Assists system end users after implementation of new processes
through training, production support, and reporting
- Perform other projects, support and duties as assigned by
management
- Transaction Management
- Provides all required support and coverage for Loan Processors
along with monitoring internal/external communications
- Data entry in core processing systems (nCino, Salesforce, and
Jack Henry) and updating title, escrow, and insurance info
- Maintain full awareness of current file status to ensure
workflow and funding deadlines are met
- Intake of new loan applications through receipt of application
deposit funds and ordering third party due diligence reports
- Communicate with third party vendors with report
requests/issues, etc.
- Perform quality control reviews prior to loan closing, UCC
requests, UCC searches, monitor expirations, and tracking
services
- Perform post close functions like loan modifications, loan
payments and escrow disbursements
- Initiate invoice processing through Oracle for the business
unit
- Review financial documents and loan agreements
- Boarding loans into Core Systems along with boarding and
tracking insurance related to those loans
- Loan document storage and recall
- Prepare loan payoff requests and subsequent processing
- Finance & Analytics
- Assist in building, maintaining, and creating our SQL based
custom-made data warehouse for the Commercial departments
- Collection of data and transferring them into a new format to
make them appropriate for analysis
- Administration of new experimental frameworks for collection of
data
- Transferring the current data architecture to our new
enterprise data warehouse
- Supporting the team with analytic requests Requirements
- Recent college graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Business,
Operations, or related field
- GPA of 3.2 or higher
- A willingness and ability to adapt to changing business needs
and priorities throughout the rotation
- Ability to work both independently as well as part of team
- Organizational and analytical with strong attention to detail
and high degree of self-motivation, initiative, and leadership
potential
- Stron g work ethic and capacity to work under pressure and
deliver on tight deadlines
- A positive attitude, professionalism, maturity, and insight
throughout interactions with clients and business partners
- Intellectual curiosity, strong communication, interpersonal,
and relationship-building skills
- Willingness to take on administrative tasks, with the goal of
developing ways to automate or improve the process or
procedure
- Proficient with Microsoft software suite (Excel, Word,
PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Recent college graduates with a bachelor's degree in Business,
Operations, or related field
- Extensive work experience is not a requirement, but dedication
to learning and a true passion for commercial lending are
vital
