Research Scientist
Location: San Diego, CA
Duration: 12 months
Scientist - Sequencing Research Group
Onsite!
Description
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with direct experience
in next generation sequencing (NGS) and epigenomics assays to be a
member of an innovative and collaborative NGS technology
development team in San Diego. The successful candidate will play a
key supportive role in carrying out genomics studies to support
drug discovery and translational biology efforts across the
community and will also support the development of new
technologies. Experience in the operation of Next Generation
Sequencing workflows, library preparation, and an ability to adapt
to new technologies in a fast-paced environment is strongly
recommended. The candidate should be well organized, able to work
independently, and accustomed to clearly communicating and
interpreting their experimental results. Prior experience in NGS
method development, epigenomics assays (ChIP-seq, DNA methylation
assays, ATAC-seq), is strongly desired. The position is for
employment on a contract basis for 1 year, with potential to extend
or convert.
Responsibilities
* Carry out NGS and epigenomics assays in support of large
collaborative initiatives
* Contribute to the development of NGS assays to benefit drug
discovery and translational research
* Perform a wide variety of molecular biology techniques with
minimal supervision and with an exceptional attention to
details
* Generate NGS libraries and perform library QC upstream of
sequencing
* Develop and edit protocols and standard operating procedures
* Perform a wide variety of basic molecular biology techniques with
minimal supervision
* Maintain an uninterrupted supply of reagents and consumables for
ongoing collaborative efforts

molecular biology, biotechnology, or biochemistry
* Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques, including
DNA/RNA extraction & purification, NGS library preparation & QC,
PCR, qPCR, etc.
* Hands-on experience with epigenomics assays such as chromatin
immunoprecipitation (ChIP-seq), DNA methylation assays, or
ATAC-seq
* Experience with cell-free nucleic acids (isolation, NGS
applications)
* Competence in routine mammalian cell culture and sterile
technique
* Strong understanding of NGS technologies, with a track record of
utilizing such assays in a research environment
* Familiarity with Illumina sequencing, and hands-on experience in
the generation and QC of Illumina sequencing libraries
* Experience with standard molecular biology tools e.g., PCR, qPCR,
gel and capillary electrophoresis
