Job Description:

Position: Technical Writing Specialist 2 Location: San Diego, CA Duration: 5+ Months Roles & Responsibilities:

  • An experienced medical writer who can support publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Topics include both data science and clinical subject matter.
  • Background in biomedical sciences and quantitative fields, such as data science.
  • Experience as a writer on peer-reviewed publications. Job Requirements: Additional insight to position:
    • Will this role be onsite or remote? Remote
    • If this role can be remote, would they be expected to work pacific hours. No, either Eastern or Pacific is fine.
    • Does this role require a bachelor's degree? Yes. Preferably this person would have some literacy in biomedical or technical fields as well.
    • How many years of experience will this person need? Preferably at least a couple, but we would like to fill this role sooner than later.
    • The job description mentioned experience in data science as well as "clinical subject matters."
      • Can the manager elaborate on the clinical subject matter that this person should be experienced in? To clarify one point, the description didn't mention experience in clinical subject matter. It mentioned that the desired tasks would involve writing about topics (that include data science and clinical subject matter). If a person doesn't have the experience but proves capable of writing on these topics, that's ok. "Clinical subject matter" can be interpreted as "biomedical topics". (Examples would be biology, diseases, genetics, clinical trials, etc)
      • Will this person be interpreting data and incorporating it into their writing, or will the data provided to them be summarized and ready to include in their writing? They will not need to interpret it, per se. They will need to talk with the scientists and be able to write in a way the accurately represents how the scientists have interpreted the data.
      • Can the manager elaborate on what the person will be writing about (med devices, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, etc.) my team develops tools using machine learning. Those tools are, in some cases, considered as Software as a Medical Device. The application of those tools is in the pharmaceutical business. So the subject matter relates heavily to pharmaceuticals and also somewhat to medical devices.
      • Does the person need to come from a particular industry (i.e. pharma) or can they come from another regulated area? If so, which areas would be acceptable? a variety of backgrounds could be useful, including someone with a biomedical background or a quantitative background (like statistics or data analysis or engineering).
      • Will this person need to have established writing samples, and will they need to be provided? It would be helpful to see some of their writing samples or citations.
      • Are there any regulatory guidelines that this person needs to be familiar with? I don't believe so, no.
