Lumos Diagnostics has an immediate opening for a *full-time RA III* to join its R&D team in Carlsbad.

The Lumos Diagnostics Research Associate III (RA III) will apply, under the general supervision of the senior science staff, a broad knowledge of biological and engineering principles in the development of lateral flow-based diagnostic tests. The RA will work with other scientific team members to design, develop, and optimize new lateral flow Immunoassays. This entry-level laboratory position requires a highly motivated individual with good laboratory skills and a willingness to learn.

The position is in the Research and Development Group, responsible for reagent and assay development for Lumos Diagnostic platforms.

*POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: *

* Independently designs and performs experiments as well as assists in the data interpretation
* Demonstrates and applies an advanced understanding of scientific methods, research protocols, assessment instruments, and data interpretation.
* Independently develops accurate and robust immunoassays.
* Tests lateral flow strips without supervision, capable of troubleshooting issues.
* Assists in the design of and independently implements conjugation protocols.
* Independently designs and performs stability, sensitivity, and specificity studies.
* Processes and records results and data with the ability to interpret the data to initiate and/or suggest the next steps in the process.
* Communicates results with the ability to interpret the data to initiate and/or suggest the next steps in the process.
* Assists with assay development of Point-Of-Care diagnostics.
* Assists with solving technical issues, can offer suggested course of action(s), and may independently solve issues.
* Adheres to safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe work environment.
* Performs and documents all work per GLP and ISO guidelines.
* Independently organizes the testing of devices with biological samples such as blood, serum, plasma, urine, tears, CSF, cell cultures, etc.
* Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

*PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: *

* Extensive experience with Lateral Flow test development and production.
* Extensive experience with protein conjugation to gold and latex particles.
* Experience with more advanced protein handling and aseptic techniques.
* Extensive experience with protein purification and characterization.
* Extensive experience handling and testing biological samples such as serum/plasma, urine, etc.
* Extensive experience with Design Control and Quality Systems Regulations (QSR).
* Total compliance with GLP and GMP guidelines.
* Regularly designs and interprets experiments with limited input from the Project Lead/Scientist.
* Adherence to the General Clinical Laboratory Practices.
* Complete compliance with all local and state biohazardous procedures and guidelines.
* Attention to details and identifies as well as independently troubleshoots technical problems.
* Advanced algebraic, statistical, and mathematical skills.
* Good personal organizational skills.
* Performs the following laboratory skills independently:
* Antibody conjugation
* ELISA experience
* Tissue culture
* Solution preparation
* UV spec
* Affinity chromatography
* Gel electrophoresis
* Computer skills with Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.

*MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND PREFERRED EDUCATION: *

* Extensive experience with the handling of clinical samples such as blood, saliva, and urine.
* This is a position for an individual with an M.S. degree and 2 -5 years of experience or a B.S. (or B.A. degree within a scientific discipline) and 3 - 7 years of experience. Additionally, 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas is required. Experience in all and expertise in some of these areas is strongly preferred:
* Immunoassays (e.g., ELISA or another format)
* Lateral flow immunoassays
* Point-of-Care Immunoassay development
* Commercial diagnostic (IVD) assay development
