Job Description:
JOB PURPOSEJVM is hiring a Certified Athletic Trainer to support
worldwide Athletic Training services within Marine Operating Forces
OPFOR Formations.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESParticipate in periodic
meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients,
identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend
corrective action when problems exist. Should a meeting occur
outside of regular working hours, the Certified Athletic Trainer
shall be required to read and initial the minutes of the meeting
instead of participating in the after-hours meeting.Participate in
the provision of periodic in-service training to healthcare and
non-healthcare practitioner members of the clinical and
administrative staff on subjects germane to care and attend annual
renewal of annual training requirements provided by the associated
clinics and facilities.Maintain documentation of all treatment
provided in accordance with clinical directives and prepare such
records and reports as may be required. An assessment may be a
factor in light duty or limited duty determinations where there is
a question of physical ability or potential for injury.Ensure safe
and effective operation of equipment used for service member care
and contribute to a safe working environment.Assist with the
tracking of inventory of medical supplies and notify government
when replenishment is required. Notify government when maintenance
of medical equipment is necessary. Recommend new rehabilitation
equipment that would benefit the program for purchase
consideration.Document all assessments, treatments and follow-up
care rendered through either written reports or through
computerized means on a daily basis. Treatment and follow-up
records on each individual requiring services shall document cause,
contributing factors, duration, diagnosis and follow-up for use in
research and analysis to improve treatment and develop methods for
injury prevention.In cooperation with the assigned Marine command
and Physician, assist the Commanding Officer in efforts to design
effective physical readiness programs.In collaboration with
supported commanders and assigned Force Fitness Instructors (where
assigned), assist in the design of evidence-based physical training
plans that optimize performance and mitigate injuries. Participate
in regular meetings to remain cognizant of the unit training
schedules. Remain aware of service and unit
policies/directives/orders that pertain to physical standards,
training, and injury treatment.Provide coaching and guidance to
service members on subjects related to applied anatomy, exercise
physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics, physical conditioning,
injury prevention and recognition, pre-operative and post-operative
rehabilitation, stretching, and posture and body mechanics.Provide
consultation both to and from the Physician, attending
physician/other physicians and other privileged and credentialed
providers.Provide evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal
injuries incurred, including, but not limited to, the following:
Progressive Resistance Exercise (PRE), Open and Closed Chain
Kinetic Exercises, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF),
manual therapy, hydrotherapy, hydrocollator, cryotherapy,
ultrasound, phonophoresis, iontophoresis, and all varieties of
muscle stimulation.Appropriately apply use of the following
equipment: Biodex Isokinetic elevation and stimulation, ski
machines, stair machines, treadmill exercisers, gravitron, free
weights and universal machines, Biomechanical Ankle Platform System
(BAPS) board, Back System, Anodyne, aquatic therapeutic devices,
and instruction in therapeutic, corrective and rehabilitative
exercises using specific equipment and strength training
devices.Provide post injury treatment in collaboration with the
patient's overseeing physician. This includes but is not limited to
treatment for soft tissue damage, acute and chronic edema,
post-surgical edema, muscle atrophy, pain, overuse injuries,
decreased circulation and loss of strength due to injury or
biomechanical imbalance.Design and fabricate protective pads,
equipment and braces for the prevention and treatment of injuries
including the use of proper taping techniques.Provide emergency
first aid and evaluation and treatment of injuries, rendering
initial treatment and performing initial examination.Provide
training and guidance, as necessary, to supporting workers assigned
by the Physician during the performance of rehabilitative
procedures. Such direction and interaction will adhere to
government and professional clinical standards and accepted
athletic trainer treatment protocols.QUALIFICATIONSMust be a U.S.
CitizenShall maintain current certification in American Red Cross
or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification. Advanced Life Support (American Red Cross), Advanced
Cardiovascular Life Support (American Heart Association), and
Advanced Trauma Life Support, are not a substitute for the BLS
requirement.Shall be sufficiently competent in reading, writing,
speaking, and understanding English to perform the work.Possess a
bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Athletic Training or
similar degreePossess at least 5 years of demonstrated experience
(1 year of experience within the preceding 3 years preferred) as a
Certified Athletic Trainer with collegiate athletes,
professional/Olympic athletes, or military personnel.Possess
demonstrated strength and conditioning experiencePossess and
maintain National Athletic Trainer Association Board of
CertificationPossess and maintain the ability to assist with
Strength and Conditioning testing and training protocols,Possess
and maintain the ability to lift and manipulate loads or weights up
to 20 kilograms/45 Lbs.Possess and maintain a level of fitness
sufficient to participate in various Marine Corps physical training
activities (obstacle courses, calisthenics, etc.) and the ability
to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments to
observe Marine training evolutions.Possess knowledge of the
application of the following equipment: Biodex Isokinetic elevation
and stimulation, ski machines, stair machines, treadmill
exercisers, gravitron, free weights and universal machines,
Biomechanical Ankle Platform System (BAPS) board, aquatic
therapeutic devices and instruction in therapeutic, corrective and
rehabilitative exercises using specific equipment and strength
training devices.Clearance Level:Possess and maintain a valid
government Tier III security clearance. OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must
pass criminal background check.
