DetailsDescription: HSWRI operates amarine fish hatchery that
produces fish for the Ocean Resources Enhancement andHatchery
Program (OREHP), administered by the California Department of Fish
andWildlife. OREHP's goal is to determinethe feasibility of
replenishing depleted marine fisheries through stocking ofcultured
fish. As part of the OREHP,HSWRI is responsible for tagging and
transporting fish to growout facilitiesoperating throughout
southern California where the fish are grown to a largersize prior
to release.Job Summary: Assist the Growout Coordinator (GC)
insuccessfully rearing, tagging, transporting and releasing tens of
thousandshatchery-reared white seabass yearly. Participatein HSWRI
SCUBA diving activities involving the inspection and the
maintenanceof HSWRI subsurface equipment and structures. May assist
with research experiments conductedat HSWRI net pens and broodstock
collection; and public outreach bycommunicating program information
directly at meetings and club-sponsoredevents, and remotely by
phone, email, newsletters and websites.Responsibilities/JobDuties
Include: - Husbandry. AssistGC in routine growout cage SoCal site.
Assistwith transport and delivery of fish to facilities, coordinate
releases, and otherhusbandry activities, including grow-out site
fish health treatments; taggingfish at the hatchery; site
maintenance and husbandry operations at the HSWRIgrowout pen in
Agua Hedionda Lagoon. - Safety and Biosecurity. -Observe current
and development improved safety and biosecurity measures -
Management. Assistwith training and scheduling transporting fish
and other activities associatedwith the growout facilities and
tagging operations. Assist with coordination of semi-annualgrowout
volunteer meetings. - System Design and Maintenance. Assess growout
site maintenance needs. Maintain inventory of nets for allgrowout.
Coordinate and assist in thesurface and subsurface maintenance of
growout facilities. Assist with design and improvement of
growoutsystems - Record Keeping and Reporting. Maintain records of
all husbandry activities.Assist GC with growout facility operators'
data collection & transmittal. Contribute to reports and proposals.
- Other. Assistwith equipment and supplies purchase for volunteers.
Operate watercraft in embayments and openocean environments. Assist
with field related studies.
