seeking a motivated Biologist, with critical thinking skills and a
strong work ethic, to join one of our San Diego County office
locations (Carlsbad or La Mesa), California. HELIX provides
CEQA/NEPA, biological, cultural resource management, habitat
restoration, regulatory permitting, environmental compliance
monitoring, acoustics and noise control, GIS, and air quality and

must possess excellent communication skills that include strong

this position include developing solutions for project challenges,

circumstances is imperative. Biologist duties may include:
- Conducting and assisting with biology surveys, including
vegetation mapping and/or focused species surveys.
- Conducting biological monitoring for construction and
restoration projects.
- Writing monitoring memos, reports, and other written tasks, as
necessary.
- Managing personal workload and coordinating schedule with
Project Managers and Biology Operations Manager, as
appropriate.
- Maintaining accurate field notes and maps, project files, work
logs, etc.
- Providing high quality work products on schedule and within

Requirements: Minimum Requirements for a Biologist:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an environmental science,
biology, or related field (degree in biochemistry or microbiology
not acceptable).
- At least three years of experience as a professional biologist
including a minimum of one year of experience with an environmental
consulting firm.
- Experience conducting flora and/or fauna surveys in Southern
California.
- Strong writing skills (please provide a cover letter with your
application).
- Experience with field data collection methods and equipment
(e.g., Arc GIS Collector/Field Maps, submeter accuracy GPS
unit).
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Able to hike long distances over alternating terrain under
varying weather conditions.
- Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record
over the last three years (or if you have an out-of-state license,
you will apply for a CA Driver's License within 10 days of
residency in CA).Additional skills considered a plus for Biologist:
- Experience with construction monitoring.
- Permits to conduct focused surveys for Southern California
special-status flora and fauna (e.g. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
permits for Quino checkerspot butterfly, coastal California
gnatcatcher, California Department of Fish and Wildlife Scientific
Collecting Permit).
- Experience mentoring/leading less experienced biologists in the
field and with report writing.
- Experience preparing biological technical reports for
jurisdictions within San Diego and/or Riverside Counties.
- Experience with native habitat restoration planning and/or
