Associate Applications Development Scientist

Company: Oxford Nanoimaging Limited
Location: San Diego

Job Description:

Our expertise in super-resolution microscopy gives scientists an unlimited ability to understand biology at a single molecule level. As an Associate Applications Development Scientist you'll rapidly become an essential part of our team of experts. A team that's developing a variety of 'plug and play' applications, ones which you'll help transform into products that'll allow scientists to see deeper and understand more about biology using our super-resolution microscopy platform no matter their background or expertise level. -
As an entry-level position you'll likely be a scientist at the early stages of your career. Someone with a scientific degree or PhD and with the practical experience of molecular biology, biochemistry or biophysics coupled with a foundation in fluorescence microscopy. All of this will have been undertaken within a strong scientific research environment. But just as importantly you've track record of 'going above and beyond' in your research work and actively working within a scientifically curious team; a team that all believe in that same approach.
Working for within Applications Development Team, your responsibilities will include

  • Conceiving new applications for various existing imaging technologies and then testing them experimentally with the aim of unlocking novel capabilities for scientists hoping to do advanced microscopy
  • Working in the wetlab to build assays for super-resolution imaging, and then refining these into products that will go directly into customer hands
  • Validating the abilities of ONI technology to deliver the needs and expectations of our users, providing feedback on improvements and opportunities to the team
  • Developing entirely new imaging technologies to help push the boundaries of what is possible, including completely novel imaging modalities
  • Trying out and providing user-oriented feedback on tools developed by our other R&D teams, sharing ideas on how they could be improved -
  • Owning your work and data, presenting your findings to your team and manager, making recommendations on how your results could impact further development
  • Managing your all your differing activities and projects to their agreed timelines, identifying both risks and opportunities to the team for agreement or advice
  • Understanding and providing feedback to the Product Team (product strategy and development) on opportunities and feasibility of product features and potential concepts
  • Providing support and advice to the Commercial Team (sales & customer success) and directly to our customers, to help identify user needs and propose technical solutions to their most technically complex challenges -

To be successful you'll need a clear passion for - and understanding of - advanced imaging methods, particularly super-resolution techniques such as dSTORM, PALM, and PAINT. You're someone who's able to translate these skills into successful creation of products meaningful to our scientific customers. Listening carefully and understanding users needs, and then working creatively and systematically to solve problems - problems that currently stifle research - is something you relish. Finally, as someone earlier in your career you're actively seeking to work within - and learn from - a world-class molecular biology team, one working with technologies that will change the world. - And as you grow your own knowledge and career, in turn you'll be sharing more and more of your own expertise too.
If you've got the enthusiasm, the passion and the skills - and you'd love to be doing work that is both challenging and hugely impactful - then we'd be delighted to hear from you.
