-San Diego Youth Services seeks a Street Outreach Worker in the Tay
Academy. This is a full time & non-exempt position reporting to the
Program Manager. San Diego Youth Services: - Who we areSan Diego
Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 780,000
homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970.
We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through
shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than
28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations.
Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help
youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless.

- Meet the basic needs of youth. - Hunger, poverty and youth
homelessness are on the rise for many youth and their families
today. We help meet these basic needs for youth. What could be more
vital than food and shelter? We provide safe places to live and
long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community
centers and housing.
- Create positive connection. We help youth focus on positive
life changes and healthy relationships as part of providing needed
resources and services. San Diego Youth Services has long provided
foster homes and adoption support services for families considering
adopting a youth in the foster care system.
- Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe
and stable housing options, we offer support to -help youth develop
the independent living skills necessary -to become self-sufficient
and keep off the streets.
- Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and
care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum
of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put
them at risk, including -case management, counseling, mental health
treatment and educational support and resources. -SDYS has a staff
of approximately 215 employees and 80 volunteers working across San
Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $22 million. You

DESCRIPTION HIRING FORTAY Academy: serves as a centralized hub for
resources and services relating to job-readiness training, case
management, education, mental health and housing for Transition Age
Youth (ages 14-25), including foster youth, former foster youth,
out-of-home probation youth, youth experiencing homelessness and
runaway youth. -CONTEXT OF THE POSITION Accountable to Program
Manager. Provide street and program outreach, health education and
intensive case management to at-risk, runaway or homeless youth.
Create community network of support to include self-help group
initiation. Community development within neighborhood and community
at large, including relationships with other providers, businesses
and law enforcement. Through community development activities,
increase safety and security of TAY Academy.Essential functions
include:1. The development, implementation, and evaluation of an
integrated treatment approach for youth with co-occurring
psychiatric disorders and quality trauma informed youth programs
that adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of San Diego Youth
Services as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles
and standards of quality.2. Adhere to and uphold the rigorous
standards of SDYS as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding
principles and standards of quality. Participate in their
refinement.3. Welcome and support volunteers in the organization
and assist them in accomplishing their services whenever
applicable.4. Assist in updating agency policies and procedures.
Carry agency big picture and stay current on agency activities.5.
Maintain data collection and contract compliance of records as
required.6. Provide outreach to at-risk, runaway or homeless youth
and provide information, referral, crisis intervention and
intensive case management.7. Initiate and support self-help groups
for youth on streets and health education groups to assigned SDYS
and community sites.8. Maintain involvement in community groups.9.
Develop collaboration with other outreach groups.10. Provide
transportation to youth.11. Develop and maintain relations with
businesses and area residents.12. Develop and maintain excellent
relations with police, law enforcement.13. Enhance safety and
security of TAY Academy.14. Maintain confidentiality and privacy
standards of service partner protected health information and other
applicable information and material in accordance to agency and
center policies, and applicable regulations and laws, including
HIPAA.15. Attend all staff/planning meetings.16. Ensure van
maintenance.17. Maintain a working knowledge of MIS equipment.18.
Maintain warm, welcoming office grounds and facilities.19. Report
any necessary facility, I.T. or equipment repairs to Program
Manager.Other duties as assigned or requiredPREFERRED PROFESSIONAL
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in social work or
related field or 2 years of experience working with high-risk
youth. Knowledge of community development. Experience in street and
milieu work, crisis intervention. Must be able to work with and
represent a culturally and ethnically diverse community. Must be
willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed
care and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in
trauma-informed and dual diagnosis program preferred. Team approach
and self-help. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Available to
work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Able to lift and carry
up to 25 pounds. Must have driver's license, a clean driving
record; be willing to obtain First Aid & CPR certification, and
willing to drive throughout San Diego County (mileage reimbursement
available). Willing to go through clearance process which may
include drug testing (Hire is pending the results of appropriate
clearances). Must be able to follow all the guidelines provided by
the agency, government and health authorities to maintain safety
and health when the job requires physical presence and/or contact
with others during the COVID-19 pandemic. -SDYS EXPECTATIONs
