Job Description: Leidos's Military & Veterans Solutions Health Group has an opening for a Research/Epidemiologist/Biostatistician in San Diego, CA. JOB DEFINITION: Under supervision of the Department 161, Medical Modeling, Simulation, and Mission Support Department Head at the Naval Health Research Center, and in collaboration with other scientific researchers, this person will design and implement research, analyze and interpret data, and participate in drafting peer-reviewed manuscripts to study and answer questions concerning the health of US military service members. Results of this research will help guide clinical management and policy decisions. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: * Develop and design studies and analysis plans that are clinically relevant and/or actionable in a military setting. * Use SAS and other statistical programs to: * perform data extraction, * link and integrate large datasets, and * conduct data analysis to identify statistical relationships. * Write scientific reports, manuscripts and other products, including detailed descriptions of analyses and clinical relevance of results. * Represent NHRC and Department 161 at relevant scientific meetings and present study results and findings to appropriate audiences. * Assist in research, preparation, and submission of grant proposals for Department of Defense funding. * Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of: * Epidemiologic methods and application to public-health-related studies. * Basic statistical methods and techniques of compiling, analyzing, and evaluating research data. * Public health concepts and issues involved in epidemiology, military health, and other related areas. * SAS programming (or other equivalent method) and its application to organize data and perform a wide variety of statistical analyses to include regression, longitudinal analysis, mixed effect modeling, and model building techniques. Skills and abilities to: * Read, understand, and interpret public-health-related technical information. * Conduct literature reviews to inform research questions, design, and publications. * Identify and apply appropriate statistical methods to evaluate data. * Analyze data to draw logical conclusions and make sound clinical management and policy recommendations. * Prepare and write reports and manuscripts concerning the methods and findings of statistical analysis. * Communicate effectively, oral and written. * Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with department director, scientific researchers, and staff. * Reprioritize projects as necessary. * MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters in epidemiology, biostatistics or related field AND at least (2) two years of post-graduate experience in research related role. Must be able to work in a team environment, exhibit self-motivation, and manage projects from conceptualization through completion. Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain secret clearance. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Previous experience with military health issues is preferred.
