Job Description: Test Technicians will assist test engineers in test labs with the installation, implementation, and loading and execution of internal test setups and scripts for mobile handset device software testing in the lab. Although some work may be completed or started remotely, the major impact of this role is in-lab support. Maintains test bench equipment and environment. Troubleshoots, maintains, and monitors, test set ups in the product test labs. Reports issues to leads and / or using standard department systems and software bug tracking databases (Jira, etc.) as needed. Helping engineers and technical leads resolve issues which may require reproducing issues, debugging, and running special test software and builds.
COVID-19 Status Requirement. On-site critical (RED)
The responsibilities of this role include:
Working under some supervision. Test lead engineers will direct and assign tasks and priorities as needed.
Errors may have financial impact or effect on projects, schedules, or customer releases; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group.
Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey and receive instructions and information that may be complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the test setups in the lab. Work may require cooperation with tech teams outside the test team to resolve issues.
Most tasks require multiple steps that can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.
Dynamic work environment - must be able to react and follow changing priorities and work loads.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Performs all computer hardware and software loading and running of product tests using product test teams standard processes and procedures.
Manages changes in priority as communicated by the test leads, and independently deals with setbacks promptly.
Diagnoses, isolates problems in test setups both in the device and workstation computer problems using standardized departmental procedures and by checking all cabling connections, testing connections to all periphery equipment, reloading or re-booting programs and devices under test as needed, and to perform initial troubleshooting independently under little supervision.
Manages individual project assignments, deadlines, and deliverables with minimal supervision.
Conducts standard processes and procedures required for assigned setups and benches.
Communicates with project lead via email, IM, phone, and direct conversation for assignments and advice for overcoming impending obstacles.
Additional Competencies (All competencies below are required upon entry)
Documentation - The ability to document issues found by using standard policies and procedures for reporting issues.
Flexibility - The ability to adapt to changing requirements and to always be ready, resourceful, and plan for change. This also includes the ability to get things done in less time, work on multiple tasks at once without losing track, and to redo work as needed. Overtime work (including weekends and remote support ) will be required when project deadlines need to be met.
Hardware Knowledge - The ability to understand and troubleshoot systems hardware design to carry out basic repairs or upgrades. This also includes knowledge of mobile device test hardwares controls and connectors.
Troubleshooting - The ability to resolve test setups hardware, software, storage, and networking issues by implementing a progressive troubleshooting methodology, as well as utilizing systems and tools available to a lab user. Asking for help promptly when normal troubleshooting does not resolve as needed.
Hardware - The ability to request installation and standard configuration of hardware in PC/workstation environment as needed, identify routine PC maintenance issues, and update OS software, device drivers, and components as needed while adhering to product test organizational protocols for installation, configuration, and maintenance.
Software Working understanding of Windows desktop operating system including a working understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite Outlook, Word, and Excel. As well as Android and testing performed by scripting and monitored by standard test framework. Executing and updating scripted testing and device parameters as directed and needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree in Engineering/ Computer Science or equivalent experience in wireless device testing or relevant field.
2+ years experience in wireless device or software product testing. Including device programming and provisioning.
2+ years experience with Android applications and system (apk, shell, adb)
Windows OS (including command line scripts).
1+ years experience software application troubleshooting (e.g., root cause analysis, debugging).
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Computer Science or equivalent experience in wireless device testing or relevant field.
4+ years experience in Wireless Device Test or related area.
3+ years experience with Android, Linux and Windows operating systems.
2+ years experience testing with Scripting (e.g., PERL, Power Shell, Bash, etc.).
1+ years experience testing with 4G LTE and/ or 5G networks
Physical Requirements
Frequently transports between labs, buildings, and campuses.
Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 20 lbs.
Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).
Able to use workstation computers and test equipment in a lab environment for more than 6 hours a day.
Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with test leads, colleagues, and tech teams which may require work both in person and remotely.
