Summary
Field Service Careers span many industries from manufacturing, to
high tech, to energy, to medical equipment. These careers involve
installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing
preventative maintenance on various types of equipment at customer
locations. Field Service is a key front-line service role meaning
customer service is of the utmost importance. Your job is to ensure
that your customer's equipment continually stays fully
operational.
Travel & Pay
The other key component of a career in Field service is travel.
Travel requirements in these types of positions vary widely and
could consist of day travel in a local market or domestic travel
Monday through Friday. When not at client site, home office
responsibilities can include quality control of equipment prior to
shipment and technical phone support for customers, among other
duties. Salary for Field Service careers varies depending on the
position and prior experience, but total first year compensation
can run from about $50,000 - $75,000.
Skills & Qualifications
Customer service skills are extremely important in Field Service
careers, as you are the "face" of the company to customers you work
with. You must have a strong desire and ability to interface with
customers and problem solve. You must also demonstrate the highest
levels of interpersonal and positive communications skills. Ideal
candidates will have strong electronic-mechanical aptitude from
their time in the military, and experience related to the
troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electronic and
mechanical systems. The ability to multitask, prioritize, and be a
problem solver are key.
